Interviews: L.O.C

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Groove Metal band L.O.C. from England. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?

The name L.O.C. is an abbreviation of the term Level of Consciousness. This is a medical term. We originally came up with many names, but this one stuck. We liked Level of Consciousness but felt it was a little long and hard to remember, so we decided on the abbreviated version, L.O.C. We feel this name suits us, as our brutal music will literally pound you into another level of consciousness.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We have all loved heavy metal all our lives. There's nothing quite like the raw emotion and passion you feel when playing metal music. The energy we feel when performing on stage is amazing. Why would we want to play any other genre?

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Myself (Adam, singer and guitarist), Mark (drummer), and Will (lead guitar) did know each other previously and have played together in the past. Dave, who joined us on the bass guitar, was a new addition who none of us knew previously. When he joined us though, it was like he'd been with us forever. He just fit in straight away.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

My favourite band has to be Lamb of God. Dave, our bass player, loves Metallica. Will, our guitarist, loves Black Sabbath, and Mark, on drums, loves old-school death metal as well as bands such as Killswitch Engage and Slayer.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

From a lyrical perspective, I'm inspired by both personal experience and things I see around me. If I feel a certain emotion or see someone else going through an emotional experience, it inspires me. Musically, we all bring something to the table, inspiration is drawn from the chemistry we create together. When we are together in a room and start playing, the magic happens.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last show we played was Forge Fest in a town in the UK called Scunthorpe. As always, we delivered a killer show and went down a storm. We love playing live and always give it 110%.

7. Where would you like to perform?

I think as an upcoming band the dream is to play at the big festivals like Bloodstock or Download. To perform in front of such a huge audience is the dream. We all grew up attending festivals such as these, and this is what inspired us all from an early age.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Anyone who thinks they can keep up with our level of intensity. I think we'd be a good match for Lamb of God, Pantera, Sepultura, and Metallica.

9. Whom not?

I think every opportunity is an experience, so we wouldn't turn down any legitimate offer. I think it's pretty narrow-minded to just say you wouldn't want to perform with someone. That said, I'm not sure we'd go down too well with Oasis or Coldplay haha.

10. Any of you have ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I think everyone suffers from their own form of stage fright. The best advice I can give a person doing this for the first time is to remember that the main objective is to enjoy yourself and show people the best version of you. Crowd size is not important; the impression you make and your own sense of self-achievement are.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are too many to list. That would literally be a full-length feature in itself.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A life-size sculpture of each of our genitals. Unfortunately, due to the huge costs of both labour and materials to erect such masterpieces, we were unable to oblige.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are who we do this for. They are amazing, and we appreciate all the support they give us. It's this support that encourages us to keep pushing harder each day.

14. What do you think of our site?

I think your site is a fantastic platform for showcasing new and upcoming artists. As a musician, I know how hard it is to get noticed and stand out from the crowd. Breathing The Core gives artists the opportunity to be heard.
