Interviews: PYROGARIC

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Rock band PYROGARIC from Wales. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE. 

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?

Pyrogaric is a mash-up of “pyro” and “agaric”, as in the fly agaric mushroom, so it’s basically a flaming mushroom. We had brainstormed ideas, and this was the favourite!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We didn’t set out to play stoner doom music, and we didn’t even know that’s what it was called to start! We just wrote what felt natural. Keelan’s guitar and Jamey’s drumming weren’t technically polished, but we had great rhythm, and that heavy, groove-led feel suited slower, weightier riffs. Someone else gave it a name, and it stuck.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes! We (Keelan and Jamey) went to high school together and sat next to each other in maths! And now we’re married…..

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Jamey - The March Violets (Goth Rock)

Keelan - The Sweet (Hard Glam Rock)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Mostly life experiences, strong emotions, and a fair bit of late-night boredom. Some of our best ideas come when we’re up late with nothing to do and a guitar nearby.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at Giff Fest at the Giffard Arms, Wolverhampton, in August. It was lovely to see new faces as well as familiar ones from the previous year!

7. Where would you like to play?

We’d love to play Download and take the band over to Europe too. We’d also love to go back to Trecco Bay with Planet Rock.

8. Who would you like to support?

The Sweet….. they’re always playing, and we always love to watch them! & The March Violets…. Who doesn’t want to support their favourite band?

9. Who isn't?

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Keelan - no, Jamey - every time. The one piece of advice if you have stage fright is to pretend to be the better, more confident version of yourself. It sometimes works for me, but I always end up wittering and asking the audience if they’ve had their lunch.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Black Sabbath, Sweet, Leaf Hound, Fury, Bobbie Dazzle, Green Lung.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven’t been asked for anything weird before - but there’s always time...

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love them; we’ve had fans come from Germany & Romania, which always makes our day/week/year!

14. What do you think of our site?

We like it - it’s a great place to find new music :)
