Track By Tracks: ESHTADUR - In Darkness All Shadows Gone (2026)
“The Age of Antumbra” serves as the album's opening invocation. Inspired by the astronomical phenomenon of the antumbra—the final ring of light visible during an annular eclipse—it symbolizes the threshold between illumination and darkness. More than an introduction, it is a preparation ritual, inviting the listener to slow down, become aware of their breath, and attune themselves to the inner world that follows. Guided by Tuvan throat singing and acoustic guitars, the track represents the first initiation and the first step into the mystical journey of the album.
“Into The Woods” is the call to initiation. The listener is invited to leave behind the noise and enter the forest alone. Inspired by contemplative philosophies and the idea of returning to nature as a path toward self-discovery, the track represents a descent into the roots of one's own being. Within the forest lies the source, the interconnected essence that binds all existence together. It is an invitation to silence and the exploration of the inner cosmos in which fast, melodic, and aggressive guitar riffs combined with dark orchestration and dissonant parts are the beginning of the conjure.
“Umbra” represents the moment the initiate confronts total shadow—not as an external force, but as a hidden part of the self. Exploring isolation, uncertainty, and dissolution of identity, the track serves as a necessary descent before transformation can occur. Musically, it stands as the album’s most orchestral and cinematic composition, culminating in its darkest passage through shamanic chants performed in the ancient Purépecha language, translated with the guidance of a professional anthropologist. The journey is further rooted in the band's heritage through the presence of the Colombian tiple, connecting the song’s spiritual themes to its deepest folk origins.
“August's Burdens” the most recent Eshtadurist track, explores the weight, suffering, and spiritual afflictions carried by the human soul. The title references the Augustus, a sacred and enlightened spiritual emperor whose wisdom transcends ordinary reality. Ancient traditions speak of the Three August Ones as primordial beings who brought forth sacred knowledge, including the I Ching, acupuncture, and other esoteric sciences. Within the song, these burdens become both a curse and a path toward transcendence, reflecting the struggle between suffering and spiritual awakening; heavy riffs and catchy melodies develop into the song’s recipe with a Tuvan chorus and melodic vocals at the same time.
“Fire Above Mountain Below” is a tribute to the lost wisdom of indigenous shamans and the ancestral cultures of pre-Columbian Latin America. The song reflects on a time when native tribes lived in harmony with nature, drawing knowledge, healing, and spiritual insight from the natural world. It recounts the arrival of colonizing forces that brought violence, displacement, and the destruction of sacred traditions, leaving entire cultures consumed by fire and oppression.
The track involves a battle between the 2 guitars, flowing furiously in counterpoint while one guitar asks the other one responses, and it evolves into an even darker, epic song with a symphonic chorus, “Fire Above” and Tuvan vocals in the deep, inspired by the symbolism of fire as both illumination and transformation; the track serves as a lament for what was lost and a call to remember. It honors the resilience of indigenous peoples, the enduring value of shamanic knowledge, and the cultural legacy that continues to shape Latin America's identity in a modern world increasingly disconnected from its roots.
“Old Shaman Blind” is the story of a shaman trapped by self-deception. He mistakes accumulated knowledge for wisdom, believing that books, theories, and intellectual achievement grant him power. Yet despite all he knows, he embodies none of it. Only after losing his sight does he begin to truly see. Through blindness, he develops genuine perception and finally becomes the shaman he believed himself to be, exposed with a melancholic intro of violins and strings into the heaviness of post-black metal in the style of Eshtadur without masks.
“Thunderground” is a manifestation of the Thunder God—the celestial force that awakens consciousness. Across many traditions, those struck by lightning are believed to receive a gift, a calling, or a spiritual transformation. Here, thunder becomes a divine explosion from the heavens, a force that shatters illusion and shakes the soul awake. It is both destruction and revelation, for a crow needs to be awakened, and this is the furious call: fast guitars, heavy and straight-to-the-point song, melodic thunder, aroused with the vocals and guitar melodies.
“Ruler Of The Lake” approaches the vibe with a single note in the guitar, progressing into a heavy ballad song with melodic guitar solos introducing the archetype of the silent master. Wise beyond measure, solitary and composed, he embodies the stillness of calm waters. Like a lake that reflects the sky without distortion, he serves as a guide rather than a ruler, pointing the way without demanding obedience. His wisdom comes not from power, but from profound inner peace like an ancient crow.
“A Black Winged Waltz” marks the birth of The Crow. Chosen beneath the movements of the stars, marked by fate and transformation, the initiate embraces a new identity. Black wings emerge as symbols of destiny, mystery, and spiritual awakening. The track represents the moment of becoming—the transition from seeker to the one who has been called. With an acoustic guitar intro and melodic voices behind, this track takes 9 minutes to explore the origin of the crow.
“Nebulae (Virgo)” is the most emotional track of the album; guitar solos between phrases and melodic voices combined with growls, Nebulae brings the burdens into place; it is the moment to feel as it is burning the skin, exploring celestial symbolism, cosmic consciousness, and the relationship between mind and spirit. Drawing from astrological imagery, the constellation of Corvus, and Mercury as the planet of intellect and perception, the track navigates themes of sanity, madness, balance, and hidden wisdom. Like still waters that run deep, its mysteries reveal themselves only to those willing to descend beneath the surface, since only crows can embrace this travesty with honor.
“Omen Of Millennia” the modern track and new proposal with symphonic elements, examines the eternal cycles of existence: reincarnation, spiritual inheritance, and cosmic recurrence. Across lifetimes and dimensions, unresolved wounds, debts, and lessons continue their journey. Yet what has been mastered becomes a blessing carried forward. The omen is both warning and promise—a sign that something approaches. Like the crow itself, it announces transformation before it arrives.
The album concludes with “Soy Real”, the final stage of the initiate's journey. After confronting suffering, illusion, pride, fear, and mystery, the seeker removes every mask and accepts themselves completely. It is a declaration of authenticity, transparency, and self-realization. While no one can be the only one, each individual is undeniably unique. The one who completes this path becomes a transcended Crow—a being who no longer hides behind illusion, but exists fully and truthfully. A real being. A crow!
