Interviews: Construct

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Progressive Metal/Djent band Construct, from UK. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It was Chris's uncle that came up with the name. We originally had differing ideas about what the name could be and so we had a list brought to us by Chris. We wanted something with a meaning behind it that would suit the lyrical content and portray the band in a meaningful light. One of the original ideas for a name was ‘Harlequin Scream’, as there was this contrast between two opposites i.e. good vs evil. In the end, a construct is neutral and could portray either side. So all in all, it wasn’t planned. It was handed to us and we all loved it!

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Simply because it’s different. We like the idea of having a unique edge to our music. It’s also pretty technical so people are usually impressed to see us playing it live. We live for those sort of reactions.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we were all acquainted in various ways. Callum and Chris were in the same year group at high school and they’ve always been good friends. Callum met Sam shortly after high school through another friend. Rich and Mike go all the way back to the start of primary school. 1994 to be precise!

4. Each band member favourite band?

Callum: Tesseract
Rich: Scar Symmetry
Christian: Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sam: Volumes
Mike: S Club 7

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The fact that music is ever-evolving. We want to play a big part of that evolution. Also, seeing musicians that we consider to be better than us makes us want to up our game to be as good as, if not better than, them.

6. Where was your last gig?

The Cellar in Stafford. It was a hoot! Great place to play.

7. Where would you like to act?

Wembley Stadium would be alright!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Any of the big names from our genre such as Meshuggah, Monuments, Volumes etc would be a dream come true.

9. Whom not?

I think everyone (except for Skrillex) will agree that it would be pretty embarrassing to feature with Justin Bieber.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Mike has a good 4 or 5 shits on gig days. He says it’s like a nervous system detox. Chris used to get cramps in his hand mid-set too. He ate a lot of bananas and that seemed to help.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We take heavy influence from Scar Symmetry in the sense that our choruses are generally very melodic and emotional. There are also the obvious influences like Periphery, Tesseract, Intervals, etc. In terms of putting heavier sub-genres of metal on the map, Bring Me The Horizon are very inspiring. They started out as quite an underground band, playing to a rather specific audience. Now they’re being played on BBC Radio 1 daily!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Cal was asked if we sell Construct baby grows once. Could be an option for the future, I guess!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Although there are few as it stands, they think the world of us and it means so much.

14. What do you think of our site?

Being honest, none of us had heard of it until today! We're always on the lookout for new music to listen to so it will come in handy for sure.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for taking the time to interview us! It’s much appreciated. 2017 is going to be a huge year for us, so hit us up on your social network of choice and keep your eyes peeled!
