Interviews: Genus Ordinis Dei

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Symphonic Death Metal band Genius Ordinis Dei, from Italy. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

As you can see it is in latin and it means Origin/Stirp of the divine order. First of all we wanted it to be in latin to remark our Italian origin, and second, it is the acronym of G.O.D.

We came up with this name because it represents at best the main theme of our songs and albums…we are not a christian band, but our message is a reinterpretation of the greatest story ever: the Bible.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Because it is a mix of the music we always loved…from death metal, to symphonic metal, some modern riffs and open choruses!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Of course! We all live in the same city and before actually form the band we played in different bands and sometimes we shared the stage too!

4. Each band member favorite band?

Manowar for Nick, Insomnium for Tommy, Gojira for Steven and Dream Theater for Richard.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Pretty much everything that is “art”. We live in Italy so we are surrounded by arts of any type, and it is a big influence when we want to create a certain atmosphere. But we are also inspired by films, tv series and books.

6. Where was your last gig?

We did a mini tour in central Italy, in Rome and Naples.

7. Where would you like to act?

Wacken Open Air would be our main choice! But also we really want to come to the US one day!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

To have Roy Khan (former of Kamelot) as a guest voice for an album would be a dream come true!

But we have Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) in our latest release, and it is amazing!

9. Whom not?

Probably any rapper out there…lol

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, Tommy and Nick used to at the very beginning. There’s no tricks…you just have do a lot of shows until you get comfortable with that! Just have a beer before the concert and chill out!!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Probably Gojira and Periphery at the moment. But basically every band we used to listen since we were 15yo has been a huge inspiration!

12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Mmmh a piece of Richard’s drumkit, some strange picture with us in a weird pose or some signs in some weird place lol

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love them! It’s thanks to them if we are still alive doing the best job ever! They are great and they always show support in every situation!!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s super cool that you give space to the bands to share their thoughts and their music!

15. Something to add?

Thank you so much for this interview! We hope to see you all soon on the road!
