Interviews: CREATURES

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Deathcore band CREATURES from Canada. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Pretty much came from brain storming different names. We didn't want a "verb the noun" style name and just wanted something short and catchy.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

I've played in a few metalcore bands in highschool and I still actively listen to metal and its sub-genres.

I also play in a Indie Instrumental Band [N/A Cappella] so when Nick and Rob asked me to join the band I was interested in the dynamic of playing in bands on very opposite ends of the musical spectrum.

It gives me a chance to be more diverse in my writing. If something is too mellow for Creatures, I can use the idea for N/A Cappella and vice-versa.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I knew of Nick (guitar) and TJ (drums) from their previous band and I came to befriend Rob (vox) through mutual friends. I actually was fans of their music before I joined the band. I went to their "Bathsalts" video shoot, it's a shame I wasn't on camera.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Rob's is 100% Enter Shikari. TJ and Nick like Thy Art is Murder or Angelmaker probably? Vic's favourite band is Alexisonfire. Mine are currently BADBADNOTGOOD and Dance Gavin Dance, although I feel like my favourite band(s) change every few months.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

My inspirations come almost randomly. Although I haven't written a full song for creatures yet, a melody or beat will come into my head and I'll rush to write it down and then spend hours trying to create of skeleton of a song from it. OR I just jam enough that a string a few riffs together into a song.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our EP release party at the Bovine Sex Club in downtown Toronto.  The show was amazing all the bands killed it and even though it was all local acts we still sold out the event.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would really love to branch out into the rest of Canada more.  We have already played all over Ontario and parts of Quebec it would be great to play some shows on the west coast.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I would love to get a vocal feature from Mike Greenwood of Angelmaker. They are def one of the hardest working and most talented dudes in the scene right now.

9. Whom not?

No one really

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I either take a single shot or nurse a beer during the show. Sometimes both. I wouldn't recommend taking more, it's just enough to take the edge off and try to have fun on stage without being tipsy or wasted and screwing up a lot.
If you don't drink I have no idea what advice to give.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Right now, Crown Lands. They're an Ontario band that just landed a tour with Coheed and Protest. Those guys are killing it!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

If they could sleep in our tour van with us....we said no lol.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They seem very cool and really dig the music. So far they are super welcoming of me joining the band, which takes some pressure off actually.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's accessible and well organized, we are really stoked to be up on it.
