Interviews: Dxvxdxd Sxlf

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Goth/Metal band Dxvxdxd Sxlf from France. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name. You planned it or came out just like that?

AD: A bit of both to be fair, at the time we were looking for names refering to duality, we ended up on a book called : " The Divided Self: An existential study of sanity & madness" by Ronald Laing, and it made complete sense with our vision. The addition of Xs came naturally in order to bring a sense of mystery around the universe of the band.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

AD: We wanted to create a 90's influenced Rock/Metal sound and inject a contemporary substance to it by using recent technological tools to fabricate orchestrations; electronic sequences and samples.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

AD: Few years back we were playing together myself and Alec Hourvari in an alternative rock band called The Divergents, Guillaume and Ludy, as close inspirational friends, joined naturally to complete the squad later on.

4. Each band member favorite band?

AD: Tricky one, because the way we write music is influenced by so many musical languages, I would say Paradise Lost for myself, Alec is really into Deftones, Guillaume is a proper enthousiast of Type O Negative, and finally Ludy is really into Underoath, for the vibe.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

AD: Personal histories, movies, books, esoterism and drugs

6. Where was your last gig?

AD: In our hometown, Clermont-Ferrand, for 'La Nuit Du Metal', kind of a local metal festival. We really enjoyed it.

7. Where would you like to act?

AD: In festivals highlighting rock and metal sounds and other dark musics. And why not over Europe if we can open for bands we love.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

AD: We are looking forward to meet people and bands and take any interesting opportunity.

9. Whom not?

AD: Mainstream French artists ... except Christophe and Etienne Daho

10. Any of you has ever suffered from fright ? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

AD: Fright is a common feeling to be honest, everyone is confronted to it somehow. There is no beginner or advanced here. Only people trying to deal with their feelings the same way you try to resolve a puzzle, it is a constant struggle, that's why we do the music we do.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

AD: There’s a wide spectrum of bands... I would say US alternative scene, English goth metal like Anathema or Paradise Lost, legendary bands such as The Cure, Pink Floyd, David Bowie amongst other and more contemporary artists such as Chris Corner from IAMX, Ulver, Mastodon or Lil Peep.

12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

AD: I am sorry I can't say anything about that young girl...

13. What do you think of your fans?

AD: As fans of music ourselves, I think it should be a complete reciprocity between the ones that play music and the ones that listen to it. Without one it simply can't work, this is the reason why we love to perform. With that in mind, it is hard to say such a thing, we are a fairly young band, and seeing people interested and curious about what we do is deeply rewarding.

14. What do you think of our site?

AD: The way it operates and the layout are smart, combining medias like videos, artworks and interviews on the same space is really effective.

15. Something add?

AD: Thank you very much for paying attention to who we are and what we do, we wish you all the best and a good reading for your audience.
