Interviews: Anomalism

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Technical Death Metal band Anomalism from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We were looking for a single word band name, that was catchy. We also want to find a band name that wasn't already being used. Anomalism was all of that for us. It was an eerie word and one that could be used to describe our sound.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Everyone in this band has been listening to the genre since we could comprehend the skill, techniques, and pure ability required to make metal music. All of our influences, and what we listen to daily is mostly metal. So why not write what we love.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Both Josh Koob and Mike Palmer came from a local band and performed together for almost two years. They then decided to start something new with people that wanted to pursue this as much as we did. We posted an ad, and then the machine we call Nigel Mason replied. We jammed a couple of times, did some bonding activities, and before you know it, we have been playing with each other for a year.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Palmer's favourite band is The Black Dahlia Murder. That was the first time I've heard the vocals, guitars, drums, that made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Josh’s favourite band is The Faceless. Their music is some of the most diverse in tech death, they can be jazzy, brutal, symphonic and more and they do it all with amazing musicianship.

Nigel’s favourite is Gorod. They blend groove and lightning fast technical songwriting as if they were doing it from birth.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The inspiration comes from a love for music. Everyone has a hobby, ours just happens to be writing music together and seeing what kind of sounds we can make together.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was at The Park Theatre. It was our EP release show. We had some incredible local talent play along with us. The atmosphere was just incredible.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere, and anywhere that will let us make noise. We've talked about Europe, North America, and everywhere between.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We would say The Black Dahlia Murder, but we've already opened for those deadly gentlemen. Maybe Archspire... Oh wait, we've opened for those guys as well.

9. Whom not?

We don't see ourselves doing well with a country band. Otherwise... We play with everyone. Consensually

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think we all have a form of stage fright. Never have we taken the stage and not been nervous. After the first notes though, it all seems to fade away. The only advice we can offer, play your music and don't worry about what people will think. Hope they like it! Do not focus on it though.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The list is huge but here are our biggest influences.  The Black Dahlia Murder, Job For A Cowboy, Rivers Of Nihil, Gorod, The Faceless and Soreption.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Free stuff. Asking for free shirts or albums. HOW WEIRD IS THAT!?

13. What do you think of your fans?

They're awesome. Probably are the coolest people anyone could know. We are forever in their debt for supporting our music. Don't ask for free stuff, but we owe what we do to you.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's a sleek, easy to navigate portal to find new and interesting music. Can always count on finding something interesting.

15. Something add?

Listen to our music, please.
