Interviews: Decline The Fall

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Progressive Metal band, Decline The Fall, from Malta. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Since I was the last member joining the band, the name was already there. The name was brought up by our vocalist John, the founding member of the band. The name stands for not giving up in life. One must be his own god.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

If you had to listen to the Band’s first EP and compare it to our soon to be released album you would notice a big difference, especially in the heaviness of the music. For instance, the EP barely had a hint of John’s growls. I have joined the band after the EP was released, bringing to the table my own influences. That’s where things started to change, to evolve if I may. John started focusing more on growls, bass was getting chunkier, drums heavier and the guitars lowered. Nowadays we consider ourselves to be mostly on the metalcore side but it was never a decision, more of how things just happen to evolve between us five.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Me and Ehren our drummer, have known each other since the first year of secondary school and have been great friends ever since. Although John used to go to our same school, I have properly met him when he auditioned for the band I used to play with. After some time we both left the band. John wanted to put all his focus on DTF and I was still undecided on which path to take musically. We happened to cross paths again when Ehren was telling me about how one of the guitarists was going to leave the band to move to Canada for good. On the same week I decided to drop by to their studio uninvited asking to be auditioned. It was there where I met Kris and Fabio for the first time.

4. Each band member favourite band?

John – Demon Hunter

Ehren – Gojira

Fabio – Children of bodoom

Kris- Iced Earth

Matthew- Plini

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

My inspirations mostly come from my favourite artists.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was on NYE of 2019. After that we focused on recordings for our upcoming album. Unfortunately with this Covid-19 situation most plans had to be re assessed.

7. Where would you like to perform?

I have always wanted to perform at Wacken Open Air in Germany. That festival will always have a place in my heart. It would be a dream come true to be able to play there.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

It would be a true honour for me to be able to perform with Devin Townsend.

9. Whom not?

I would have no one in mind to be honest. As long as they share the same love for music and appreciate it as much as we do then we are all good!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Myself being an anxious person, stage fright has always effected me and still is, no shame in that.   It has never stopped me from doing what I love though. On a better note, it tends to feel less and less with every gig we play.  It is not easy to beat but it will get better the more you gig.  Focus  on  what you love and surround yourself with people that want to push you further!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Devin Townsend has always been my main inspiration; I think that man is a musical god walking the earth. David Maxim Micic and Plini have also been very inspirational to me, especially since I saw them both performing in Amsterdam.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I think we should keep this question for the future.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Oh, we love our fans! It would not be the same for us if it were not for them and for that we are thankful!

14. What do you think of our site?

I think it's great. It’s sites and people like yourselves that help get newer bands on the line the recognition they need! And for that we are grateful.

15. Something to add?

Follow us on any of the Social media platforms! We have recently released our new single Nemesis followed by more on YouTube. Our album will also be released soon this year ! https://youtu.be/1YB-k70Dglo
