Interviews: Laced In Lust

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Sleaze Rock band, Laced In Lust, from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We wanted something naughty yet passionate, but also fit our branding of who and what we were doing, all whilst putting the temptation idea out there of “who are these guys”. To be covered with sexual desire in our imagination and in our music was the goal so "Laced In Lust" came out pretty quickly when we put all that put together.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

All of us grew up with parents playing Slade, Scorpions, Sweet, T-Rex, Bon Jovi, Gunners, Motley Crue and the list goes on haha. The music really rocks and also can show the vulnerable side of a person with wonderful ballads. Glam is also fun, and it’s just a means of meeting people and having a party, but also testing the norm of reality with the breaking of the chains of how you look when you walk down the street (it’s not always welcoming haha). So really we choose it because it already was us as people, and it’s always felt right.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. I met the original guitarist before the other members when he was playing with his old band "Black Knight"(70’s rock/glam) years before we formed. Russell (drums) I met around the same time and we started our first glam band back then (Livewire) which went for about a year before we started “Laced In Lust”. Our original bass player, Robbie, we got from another glam band (Skyrats) who were already in the scene. Oopie (bass) and Nick (lead guitar) who are part of the official lineup of Laced In Lust today, we’ve known for many many many years in the glam scene with their previous bands “Generation Swine” and “Love Cream”. Pretty much just one big friendship circle haha. Same with our touring bass player, Caleb, I've known him for about 10 years through my fiance and also through him playing in other bands we have played with before.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Always a hard question as there’s so many you want to put in, or some days how you feel when you get outta bed is the difference haha. But we’ve settled with this:

Torsten – D-A-D (Disneyland After Dark)

Russell – The 69 Eyes

Oopie – Backyard Babies

Nick – Led Zeppelin

Caleb – AC/DC

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Oh well, that could be anything really. Sometimes I’ve written songs without even meaning to, it’s just come out. Otherwise, I'd have to say just life in general and past experiences is the biggest one.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was at the Enigma Bar in Adelaide about 2 years ago. We took what was meant to be a 6 month break, but ended up being a year. And just as we were about to come back out with all these shows again….boom! Covid19 hit.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere!!!! We have been touring Europe quite a bit in the last 5 years, covering around 16 countries and played stadiums, so we’d like to focus priority on the fans we’ve established there first. But we would like to start building blocks for Japan and North American tours soon.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Well, any of the favourite bands would be great haha. Otherwise, I'd have to say 3 bands here. D-A-D and Kissin’ Dynamite would be amazing as they really are kicking goals for the glam scene, and Status Quo again. We loved playing with them and would love that opportunity to work with them and their crew once more.

9. Whom not?

Well, you should never say no as that’s already bad for your business, but if there was someone I wouldn’t be jumping for joy to play with it would be Die Antwoord. I’d still do it but it wouldn’t be a pleasurable listening experience for myself.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I did at the start, like the first two shows ever. I have no tips though haha, I had 3 other guys who were pumped and I’m crapping myself, but you just get up there and do it. Also, the 3rd beer helped a little haha.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Oh geez so so many but I’d say Status Quo, Scorpions, D-A-D, the Casanovas, Hell City Glamours, Poison, Great White, Slade and Reckless Love to name a few.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Probably can’t disclose most of the good ones haha and some are bloody weird. Otherwise…… In Germany we had a fan bring us back to her house, she treated everyone fine with food and drink which was lovely. She asked if we could go up to her room and show us something and was quite persistent about it. No one wanted to but she had just spent like 80 euros on feeding us and we drunk her fridge empty so I thought someone should do the right thing and go see what she wants to show us so badly. So I went up there…… I walked into her room and she shut the door behind……. I was standing in a room which was covered from wall to floor with Soviet relics and shrines to Joseph Stalin. She asked me to swear myself to Communism in which I just politely said no thank you, but thanks for the offer. She had knives and stuff everywhere and I thought I’m about to lose a kidney haha. She then took half her clothes off and put on a USSR officer's uniform and asked me to beat her up (wtf). I bolted down the stairs straight to the guys and yelled to bail out, we shot through so fast we even forgot to take our beers with us haha.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Total respect!! Our fans spend a full day’s wages just to come out and see you, party and have a great time. We always have a great time with them and without them, we wouldn’t be here today. Love you all xoxo

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s quite basic, but that’s really good. Don’t have to spend 10mins trying to find things out. Everything I need to know is right there for me like email, showtimes, and the man who is behind it all (Tim).
