Interviews: Ghosts Of Sunset

We have had the opportunity to interview the Rock 'N' Roll band Ghosts Of Sunset from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We sort of went through a couple names and ultimately landed on Ghosts of Sunset as a homage to the music we loved from the 1980s Sunset Strip scene. A bonus was it being a tip of the hat to the music that influenced us prior to the 1980s as well. The Byrds, the Doors, Flying Burrito Brothers, etc..

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We both love such a wide variety of music and over the years have played all sorts of styles from pop-punk, Americana, country, and classic rock, but the music we make with Ghosts of Sunset isn’t just something we listen to, it’s who we are. We were so completely immersed in this scene that it became part of our DNA.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Todd Long and I have been friends since our high school days. We’ve made music together over 30 years, written music together, shared favorite bands, and championed this genre.

4. Each band member favourite band?

As cliché as it may be, if there wasn’t a Beatles, I highly doubt I would’ve ended up here. They really made me want to DO this.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

That inspiration comes from just LIVING day to day. Little moments that may seem insignificant can be the spark that ignites an entire storyline and a new song.

6. Where was your last gig?

Todd and I are out doing solo shows as individuals right now. My last was at a Northern Michigan resort.

7. Where would you like to act?

Venue-wise? Anywhere with power. Geographically? Anywhere we can find like-minded people to connect with.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Dream bands? Stuff like Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, etc… Band we admire who have grown as they’ve progressed and managed to maintain the bulk of their audience.

9. Whom not?

I doubt we’d be a good fit with heavier stuff like Slayer, or Venom, or the like.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Not really. It’s funny, other areas of life are more intimidating than being onstage. It seems that being onstage is one of the most comfortable places for me.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The classics like Beatles, Stones, Bowie, Mott the Hoople, Hanoi Rocks, Kiss, Alice Cooper, plus classic country, rock, folk, anywhere a good song can be found is very inspirational.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Clothes. Scarfs, hats, necklaces. “Give me your hat”.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re great! It’s just amazing that we’ve been able to connect with people who love this music as much as we do. It’s just like inviting your friends over to your parent’s basement to listen to records.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s one of the most important things in the world to share and spread music. Now more than ever we need those connections.

15. Something to add?

Just so much gratitude for spreading the word and helping us share something we love with others.
