Interviews: OTARGOS

We have had the opportunity to interview the Blackened Death Metal band OTARGOS from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?

We were at this time really inspired and influenced by old school BM so we wanted something linked to the « Devil ». OTARGOS is coming from an old Greek word meaning « The Goat »

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

In the early beginning, we were playing some thrash metal stuff. We turned toward BM a few years later and create Otargos. We were fans of bands such as Marduk, Mayhem, Dark Funeral, Immortal.... all the northern kings of the genre.

3.Did you know each other before the band was formed?

In Fact, OTARGOS was first my solo project, but in view to performing shows I decided to make it a real band. My oldest and best friend Alexxx joined me as bassist and quickly we found a drummer... we were in 2001 !

4. Each band member favourite band?

Astaroth: Motörhead & Iron Maiden

Michael: The Faceless & ACDC

Ulrich: Iron Maiden & Bolt Thrower

Manu: Cannibal Corpse

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Mainly SF movies and novels, fantastic OST, and of course Warhammer 40 000!

6. Where was your last gig?

We played last month in a french fest with Seth, it was very cool. It was our first gig in 2 years due to the Covid... as musicians but also as an audience. We were waiting for this with a lot of excitement!

7. Where would you like to act?

We wish to come back again to South America, it was such an amazing time when we played there! Asia is also a place we would like to act! We are just waiting for a good opportunity.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There's a long list, but of course Behemoth, The Amenta are bands we would like to feature with. Even if we appreciate it we are more intrested in death / death-black formations than pure BM bands.

9. Whom not?

HAHA ... in fact I don't know!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Like everyone, in the early days... during the years this fright turns to positive thrill! It's a really specific feeling, I can't live without it now, it's a kind of drug. It was very intense when we came back on stage last month after a so long time without any concert! No tip to give... just think you are the king when you hit the stage!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Personally, I was inspired by old-school BM when I was young. Bands such as Marduk and Dark Funeral led me to play BM music. Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel, Deicide, Angel Corpse are the death metal masters that caught my intention since the beginning of my metalhead life!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A girl in brazil wanted to trade her own used panties to get some merchandise after a gig!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Fans are very important, without fans a band can't survive. We love our fans and respect us as much as possible. We are not those kinds of guys who pretend to be superior just because we are in a band, or to be the evilest possible and shit on them just to be some black metal bad motherfuckers! We simply are honest.
