Behind The Tracks: Andrew Thomases - Exploring (Single) (2022)

Have you ever felt burned out or stuck in a rut? Feel like life is getting a bit tedious? I have certainly felt that way at times. The responsibilities of work and family life can get one a bit run down. Where did that sense of adventure that we had as kids go?

Well, it is still there, but you have to recognize it and make time for it. In my mind, the best solution to the tedium of life is to rekindle your sense of exploring. That is what my song “Exploring” is all about. Don’t let life suck the life out of you. Make sure you continually try to learn new things and visit new places. Pick up a hobby you never thought possible. Get out of your comfort zone. Trying the untried may be a bit daunting, but it energizes you. This was true for me. I am in my 50s and just now started recording original music. I had to teach myself guitar, song writing, and production techniques. It has been a great ride, and “Exploring” is my way to spread that message to others.

I started out with some simple acoustic guitar chords, but I also added a bit of effects on the electric guitar to give the intro a sort of swirling Smiths sound. The song starts off slow when it discusses the fact that life can get in the way of desires and the fire inside begins to dwindle. The beat then drops and the drums kick in with an upbeat, exciting tempo when the song starts discussing the virtues of exploring new things. A catchy bass line accompanies the driving drums, and there are some cool '80s-sounding guitar licks to accompany the lyrics. The chorus suggests that the listener explore a new side and try the untried. Or, don a pack and travel to distant lands.

Hopefully, by the end of the song, everyone is ready for their next adventure. Enjoy!
