Band Biographies: MASS SKY RAID

Gold Coast alternative/rock outfit Mass Sky Raid formed in 2011, releasing their debut EP ‘Courage Under Fire’ in mid-2013, securing physical distribution to Australian retailers via MGM. Off the back of receiving strong media reviews – including a 4.5 out of 5-star rating in rock bible Blunt Magazine – Mass Sky Raid secured support slots with high profile Australian bands including Dead Letter Circus and Twelve Foot Ninja as well as UK exports I Am Giant.

Continuing in partnership with local Gold Coast world-renowned producer Matt Bartlem, Mass Sky Raid followed up their successful EP with their first full-length album “Science of Fiction”. Each single released from the album including “Oceans”, “Enemy”, “Sacrifice”, “Edge of the Unknown” and “Closer” gained considerable airplay on rock radio shows around Australia including Triple J, Triple M, Rebel FM, 4ZZZ and 2FBi, in addition to over 40 stations worldwide. Their single “Closer” was also placed in Jane Gazzo’s top 30 of Triple M Home Grown tracks in 2017.

Following on from the release of “Science of Fiction” Mass Sky Raid gained ongoing industry recognition being invited to play at the iconic Progfest 2019 while also being placed in the 2019 Queensland Australia music finalist awards and Gold Coast 2019 finalist awards in 4 categories including best album “Science of Fiction”, “Best Song”, Breakout Artist of the year” and people’s choice award.

In light of the success of their first album release, 2019 saw Mass Sky Raid gain significant funding support through the local Gold Coast Regional Art Development Fund program. This enabled them to continue to develop and expand their unique anthemic sound and work toward their highly anticipated follow-up album. In collaboration with talented local Gold Coast producer Luke Palmer, Mass Sky Raid has been working extremely hard behind the scenes and is excited to release its new songs to the world.

The first releases from the sophomore album, “Not Alone”, “Breakthrough” & “Arrows” saw national airplay from the likes of Triple J, Triple M & Rebel FM, inclusion in Spotify Editorial Playlists, with “Arrows” also going on feature in the AFL. 2022 has already seen the band nominated for the Best Heavy track in the 2022s Queensland Music Awards for “Arrows”, as well as gaining slots with The Butterfly Effect, Voyager & Wallapalooza Festival on the Gold Coast, alongside the likes of the Grinspoon, The Butterfly Effect & British India. Mid-2022 will see “Calm In Chaos” released with an accompanying East Coast Tour, but not before the release of the highly anticipated “Undertow” & “Miracle”.
