Interviews: MRS BECKETT

This is a new interview with the Alternative Power Rock band MRS BECKETT from the UK. Check out the entire interview and give them a follow on their FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or came out just like that?

JIM: I was in a band with someone who transitioned. I started to write a musical about it called Mrs. Beckett, I write a few of the songs and thought "This needs a real band, not a fucking musical, and Mrs. Beckett became that band.

DAVE: Jim's mysterious imagination

PETE: Jim’s best at explaining the name. It’s a great name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

JIM: Guitar riffs are what the angels play in heaven. The choir invisible sings songs based on guitar riffs. Guitar rock n roll is in my DNA, I’ve tried other stuff and it just depresses me.

DAVE: I always loved this sound. Jim asked me if I knew a drummer that would be into this kind of thing. And I did.

PETE: You can’t beat a riff based power trio! And with the quality of our songs, it’s a potent mix

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

JIM: Oh yes.

DAVE: Unfortunately, yes.

PETE: I’ve known Jim for 20 years. We were actors together. And Jim and Dave go way back do there’s a simple chemistry

4. Each band member's favorite band?

JIM: The Rolling Stones crossed with Led Zeppelin and The Pixies struck with Rage Against The Machine.

DAVE: Now, the one I'm playing with. Back in the day, Free, Jimi Hendrix Experience

PETE: It keeps changing over the years it’s been AC/DC, Queen, Maiden, The Who, The Jam. I suppose Bruce Springsteen and his E Street band will always be there. But there are loads.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

JIM: The fact that life is so fucked up.

DAVE: Well it certainly ain't the bank manager.

PETE: That’s Jim’s department. He’s got the secrets. When they’re presented to us we keep it simple. Let the groove and song shine

6. Where was your last gig?

JIM: The Schooner, Gateshead

DAVE: The Tyne Bar

PETE: The Schooner in Gateshead

7. Where would you like to play?

JIM: Any big Festival

DAVE: Red Rocks

PETE: We’ve always fancied playing Trillians rock bar in Newcastle. It’s a great place for live music and full of folk we think will love our stuff. And it just happens we’re playing there twice in 6 weeks. Looking forward to it.

8. Who would you like to support?

JIM: The Rolling Stones crossed with Led Zeppelin and The Pixies struck with Rage Against The Machine.

DAVE: Michael Bubble

PETE: There’s a great country rock band called Blackberry Smoke. I saw them in Newcastle a few years ago and the support band was awful! I thought how did they get that gig? We would be much better!

9. Who not?

JIM: Michael Bubble

DAVE: Jedward PETE Coldplay. Couldn’t bear to have to listen every night!

10. Have any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

JIM: You shouldn't be nervous, you should know your stuff backward. Rehearse til you're sick of your songs, then watch how much you love them again when there’s an audience and you know exactly what you’re doing.

DAVE: Buy more drums

PETE: No. Just that pumped-up nervous energy that makes u you up want to play!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

JIM: The Rolling Stones crossed with Led Zeppelin and The Pixies struck with Rage Against The Machine.

PETE: All those guitar Bass Drum outfits. ZZ Top, AC/DC. Early Bowie etc..

DAVE: My soul.

JIM: a blow job and/or mortgage advice

13. What do you think of your fans?

JIM: They are fucking mint.

DAVE: Pesky, irritating, beautiful people. I prefer the females, particularly the younger, prettier, ones

14. What do you think of our site?

JIM: It is fucking mint.

DAVE: Show me around and I'll tell ya.
