Interviews: Vakaren

This is a new interview with the Black Metal band Vakaren from Sweden. Check out the entire interview and give them a follow on their INSTAGRAM PROFILE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

I am the newest member of Vakaren, so I do not feel it is my place to speak on the origins of the name. I know what it means to me, but I think keeping my personal meaning to myself and leaving it open to interpretation casts a wider net of potential implications to thoughtful listeners.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

This specific genre of black metal is one of the most cathartic and raw forms of expression that exists in this world. I was drawn to it as it was drawn to me; It just happened. My style of vocals suits emotional music and this genre allows me to speak with an unfiltered tongue.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No. The Apparition found me through music and the connection was too obvious to ignore.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

My tastes revolve so rapidly, that I can't give you a straight answer... One week it will be Baroness, the next Crumb, the next Viagra Boys, and the next Ulcerate... It honestly depends on my varying mood.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life. Death. Daily ritual. Reality. Fantasy. Literally everything.

6. Where was your last gig?

My last gig was in a dark and dirty smoke-filled bar, playing bass and yelling for a high-speed stoner metal project.

7. Where would you like to act?

It depends on the situation and the offer. I'm open-minded, but I'm not playing in someone's basement anymore. Those days are over. I prefer more formal or interesting live settings. I'm not Into the competitive fashion show of trendy local band's politics.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Anyone who is an artist and works to create without limits.

9. Who not?

I do not work with Nazi ilk or ignorant individuals.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Absolutely. I was paralyzed by fear in my youth on stage. My advice would be to remember that fear and use it as fuel. Fear means you care. Be afraid. Let every emotion out on stage. There's is no sense in limiting yourself. If you are meant to, you will overcome it... If not, use it as your sword.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Any band that tries new things. Even if it sucks, the act of not being "safe" or cookie cutter inspires me.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

People have said some strange things... But, nothing too crazy has ever been asked of me.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I adore anyone who cares. I don't spend time looking back on things I have done in music, but I appreciate anyone who takes time out of their lives to listen.

14. What do you think of our site?

I'm into it! It's unique.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for your interest.
