Interviews About Albums: Madrost - Lost Lives Volume 1 (2022)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Progressive Thrash Metal band Madrost to ask some questions about their new album "Lost Lives Volume 1"

1. What can you say about this new CD?

Tanner: First of all, thank you Breathingthecore for the opportunity and support for this release. The "Lost Lives" series has been a total passion project for me. It started out earlier this year as I had some free time to take a look back into our vault. I quickly found multiple unreleased live albums from our past with the various lineup changes and wanted to document and preserve our history as a band of 15 years. Thankfully, the live albums sound great and were only amplified further with Rob Colwell's brilliant mastering work on it. Mix that with Tony Koehl's amazing talents and there you have it, "Lost Lives Vol. 1".

2. What is the meaning of the CD name?

Tanner: The title itself was conjured up by my father, who was there for all of my musical endeavors. Amazingly, he had the foresight to get as many of these CDs as possible from the now defunct "Hogue Barmichaels" where we use to play a lot back in our beginning stages as a band. The title basically sums up that it is indeed a live album and also sets us up to release more albums in this series.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD?

Tanner: It was basically all of my doing. With the help of my father, Tony Koehl and Rob Colwell, this is a total passion project that was put together to preserve an era of the band that would have otherwise been lost in time. Grateful for this opportunity and their talents.

4. If you have to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Tanner: Honestly, I would have to go with the closing track, "Under the Hammer" as it was a surprise to me that it sounded so good and that we even ended a show with that song. Usually, we would always end with "Zombie Grinder" but not at this particular show.

5. Is there a special message in this CD?If there is what is it?

Tanner: I would hope that the special message in releasing this album is that I hope more bands will do the same thing. Releasing live albums that may or may not be 100% in terms of quality goes, but rather showcases their bands in the different stages of their careers.

6. Are there some lyrics that you´d love to share?

Tanner: Always loved the chorus line in "Under the Hammer" that went, "Under the Hammer, Living in Fear, Under the Sickle, The End is Near".

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Tanner: Definitely, all of the above for me. This album made it possible for some of us to even reconnect as human beings. A couple of the members that played on this, I had not seen in years! That was a major bonus for me to get a chance to meet up with some of them and talk about the old days.

8. Something to add?

Tanner: Thank you so much everyone for supporting us and this release. I look forward to releasing "Vol. 2" shortly. Make sure to go to https://madrost.bandcamp.com/ if you would like to get a copy of the album and help support the band even further.
