Interviews: MATT MILLER

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the  Progressive Metal/Death Metal/Black Metal artist, MATT MILLER from the USA. Check out the interview and follow him on his FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The idea to use my own name came from the idea that this is a solo instrumental project. In hindsight, I wish I would have had a proper band name although the title of the project being my name has proven to be beneficial. I was not anticipating such a positive response which I am truly grateful for.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I find progressive and technical music to be the ultimate form of musical expression. Not only does being an instrumental artist push you to write interesting music but also good songs.

3. Each band member's favorite band?

I have many favorite bands and the list changes often. I like many different bands and artists for different reasons. Not everything I like is metal or is guitar-heavy. For example, I like songs that have strong vocal melodies. Nothing beats a catchy chorus.

4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I am inspired by the world that we live in. There is a lot to appreciate in this world if you look around for it. There is also a lot to be terrified of. Nothing is more terrifying than reality.

5. Where was your last gig?

Austin Texas at Come and Take it Live as part of the Cyber Shred Tour 2022. Which encompassed 29 shows in 30 days across the United States.

6. Where would you like to play?

I would love to go to Europe to play. Not only is Metal appreciated there but being immersed in so many different cultures is exciting.

7. Whom would you like to feature with?

I would love to Tour with Yngwie Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert, Jeff Loomis, and countless others.

8. Whom not?

Not anyone in particular, however, I don’t see myself playing with The Weekend anytime soon.

9. Have any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think any performer has anxiety to varying degrees. My advice would be to practice as much as you can. That way you have done everything you can to make ensure a successful performance. Although, not every show will be perfect, and accepting that that’s okay if you have done everything you can to give your best performance.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are so many I don’t know where to start. My top three are Death, Megadeth, and Necrophagist.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To sign a Styrofoam head. I have signed many things from merch to the human body but a Styrofoam head was a first. I didn’t ask any questions.

12. What do you think of your fans?

I am extremely appreciative of them. I cannot stress enough how much their support means to me. As I stated earlier, I never thought my solo instrumental would have been received so well.

13. What do you think of our site?

I think the layout and format are great. I find it to be really cool that not only do you provide interviews and reviews but also random stuff. I found it refreshing that featured artists are asked about each track from their album individually as well as the artwork. I think that makes for a more complete experience for the listener.

14. Something to add?

I have many new releases that will be available soon! Including my new technical death metal project, Chasm of Discord featuring myself, Lord Marco, and Tony Reviere. Our first single Deny the Light is available from Blood Blast powered by Nuclear Blast on all online platforms for streaming and purchase. The album Admonishing the Dawn of Reverence will be available in November 2022. I will also be releasing a rerecording of my first instrumental EP MMXVII in October 2022 through Blood Blast powered by Nuclear Blast. I will also be releasing a power metal record sometime next year. As well as reissues and remasters of my back catalogue.
