Interviews: Ladymen

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Stoner Rock/Psychedelic Rock band Ladymen from Mexico. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

There was a local drug dealer in our hometown that had a pretty similar nickname in Spanish "dondoña", so we pretty much translated that to English then twisted and we found it sounded very interesting.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We are huge fans of Kyuss and all of the sky valley/Joshua tree/rancho de la luna music scene including bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Yawning Man, Mondo Generator, Brant Bjork. So we wanted to follow these bands' music style with a local essence from where we are, Jalisco, Mexico.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we live in a small town called "Lagos de Moreno" and we usually know all of the local musicians. But we were friends already before starting the band.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Queens of the Stone Age - Thin Lizzy - Motorhead - Kiss

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The bands we are great fans of our Red Fang, Earthless, 1000mods, Clutch, Truckfighters, Sleep, etc. We loved the idea of putting our 2 cents to the Stoner Rock genre since it is the music genre the band members love most.

6. Where was your last gig?

We recently shared the stage last August with a great Mexican band called "Disidente", it's a band that we love and respect - they are really cool and well known in Mexico's rock scene.

7. Where would you like to act?

We know a place that's close to the Joshua Tree desert area called "Pappy and Harriet's", that legendary place has hosted great rock shows and stoner genre festivals such as Stoned and Dusted. Also awesome festivals like DesertFest or Psycho Las Vegas.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Red Fang, Stöner, Earthless, or Radio Moscow.

9. Whom not?

Taylor Swift or Kanye West haha!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

It's always difficult to overcome feeling nervous, but we think having greatly focused rehearsals it's the key to being rock solid on stage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Kyuss, Thin Lizzy, Motorhead, Red Fang.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

At some live shows, people asked us to sign their posters or merchandise. It's really odd for us to do that because we are humble about our music but we were very pleased to do it.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We prefer to name them as followers and we love them, we always deliver 111% on the stage as an appreciation for them to come and see us.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's super awesome that you are bringing new bands that rock a lot to the spotlight, definitely we are a fan of your content.

15. Something to add?

Thanks for this opportunity, we are working hard to deliver a second album full of riff madness and heavy droppers! We will see you soon again!
