Interviews: Wicked Love

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Modern Rock band Wicked Love from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or did it come out just like that?

So there are two different stories that show the two different sides of leadership in Wicked Love. Austin (lead guitarist) is a huge George lynch and lynch mob fan so it's super obvious why he was ok going with the word wicked, wicked sensation being a favorite of his. I grew up in New England and the term “wicked” kind of gets thrown around a lot up there. Wicked up there is another term for “awesome” so when it comes to Wicked love you can take it either way you want. Wicked as awesome or wicked as evil.

2. Why do you want to play this genre?

I have a pretty high-pitched voice, When I answer the phone people always tend to call me ma’am. It doesn’t help that my name is Brendan and they always seem to think I’m saying Brenda when they ask for my name. I use to be self-conscious about it but Listening to the radio in my mom’s car really helped me find my place. The 80’s style glam rock is sexy and flashy, it produced some of the greatest guitar licks of all time. You just can’t beat it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The only people we didn’t really know were Josh (drummer) and Shane (bassist). We pretty much found Shane in the classifieds on the internet, I was so pumped when I found him. Josh, I found it by seeing some of his videos on Facebook and drooling over the fact that I wanted him in the band. Austin and I started the band and Brad used to be our roadie hahaha!

4. What is each band members favorite band?

This is always the hardest question to answer!! How can you favorite just one band with so many great ones!! I’ll give you bands that have inspired us.

Brendan: Firehouse

Austin: Def Leppard

Josh: Strapping Young Lads

Shane: Seether

Brad: Night Ranger

5. What inspires you to write songs?

Sex, drugs, and rock and roll duh! Honestly though, Love. My son keeps me pushing for the dream. I sleep well knowing that someday when my son is old and I’m dead and gone he’ll be able to slap on a wicked love album and hear his daddy's voice whenever he wants.

6. Where was your last gig?

At a local bar in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina called “My Fathers Moustache” great little English themed pub, I expect a free beer from them now for shouting out their name.

7. Where would you like to tour?

My absolute dream tour is Japan!!! I’m a huge weeb when it comes to their culture! Huge anime fan! If I could get there I would consider my mission complete.

8. Whom would you like to tour with?

Obviously Firehouse, those boys are still kicking it hard too. At a hard second place though I would love to romp around with Dave Grohl because I feel like he matches our energy and I like hanging out with good people.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

EVERY SINGLE SHOW!!! Austin and I, in particular, have gotten nervous to the point of feeling sick no matter how big the crowd. I think smaller crowds are worse because you can actually see everyone’s faces. With big shows, faces tend to blend together so it's easier. As for tips I usually get a little bit of that liquid courage in me. Two jack and cokes usually do the trick haha.

11. What are the bands that have inspired you?

Firehouse Bigtime, Have I said I’m a huge Firehouse Fan haha. Def Leppard for sure, Slaughter really helped push my voice, XYZ, Extreme, Coheed and Cambria, Skid Row, Jani lane and Warrant, Work of Art, literally anything coming out of Frontier records haha.

12. What is the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I haven’t gotten any really weird requests, hopefully, I get some soon because I love shit like that. I think the weirdest thing I’ve done to a fan was wrung my sweaty shirt out on them. I didn’t do it on my own they wanted me to do it for them! That was pretty weird.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Ok, so one thing that I’m very big on is our fans. I’ll literally do anything for our fans. I’ve been to their houses, and I’ve broken bread with them and their families. Our fans are a community, we’ve got a lot of diehard ride-or-die fans that I absolutely love, we wouldn’t be where we are without them. I will always have time for them.

14. What do you think of our site?

The layout is great, and I love the links that you have for new bands. Your genre list is fucking gnarly!! You guys have interviewed so many awesome bands, I’m honored that wicked love gets to be a part of your ever-growing list of legends!!

15. Anything else you would like to add?

We will be getting in the studio to work on our full-length album around next year sometime. Be ready for some high-energy content coming your way! And remember to stay wicked!!
