Interviews: Twisted Mind

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band, Twisted Mind from Israel. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The band’s name came as a decision made by all the band members together, we all realized something about our unique group.

You see, we all come from different musical and cultural backgrounds, so as you can imagine we all have our own opinions and views on everything, and yea, we also get into arguments,  but the beautiful thing is, no matter how different our opinion on a subject gets, the music always comes first for all of us. So, it unites us every freaking time, repeatedly. And so it happens that five different minds all twisted together, inspire something new and amazing. So, we decided… Twisted Mind.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We wanted to play something fresh, something new, and combining all our preferences produced exactly that goal. We are trying to present a new kind of musical genre to the world.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Here's a funny story! Yanir (Our lead singer) and Lahav (guitar and oud) studied for their music degree together. Lahav at this point was already a part of the band and knows Dan (guitar and bouzouki) personally from around the city but dan and Yanir didn’t know each other. One night out they accidentally met in a club and Lahav introduced Yanir to dan as an "Amazing POP/RNB singer". Dan thought it will be cool if they’ll feature Yanir in one of their songs. A year later or so, Yanir joined as the lead singer of the band and the rest is history. Later on, he asked David (drums) to join them, as they needed a drummer and he knew him from other projects much later on Dan dragged Or (bass), his cousin, as a fresh new band member.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Yanir grew up listening to POP/RNB/ROCK kind of music so his influences are Robbie Williams, Bon Jovi, and even Michael Jackson or Elton john, but to be honest he does not have one particular favorite. He is open-minded and can work with everything.

Lahav grew up listening to ethnic and hardcore metal music. His favorite bands/musicians are Avenged Sevenfold, Dream theater, and also Britney Spears!

Dan grew up listening to Yemenite folk music, metal, and middle eastern mainstream so naturally, his favorites are on one hand the great Metallica, but on the other hand Israeli singers like Haim Moshe.

David grew up listening to rock, pop, metal, progressive music, and also the gospel. His favorites are Tesseract, Justin Bieber's band (he doesn’t like Justin himself), and any gospel possible.

Or grew up Listening to funk, rock, and pop music. His favorites are the Red hot chili peppers, Linkin park, and Haproyekt shel revive.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Yanir: I am dyslectic, so in school, it was really embarrassing and frustrating for me to write homework, quizzes, or anything really.

You see, there are rules to write the right way in almost any social interaction. And then I figured, the only place nobody judges my writing or laughs at me, is when I write songs and short stories to myself in my own room, using just my computer, and when I’m writing by myself, alone. There are no rules! It was my liberation! Years passed and I grow up, started caring about what people think, and now I’m writing to myself and sharing it with the entire world, feeling no shame at all.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at a central stage of the city "Rishon le zion" where Dan, Lahav and Or grow up, this concert was a special celebration of Israel’s Independence day. They invited us to rock the place as we are residents of this city, they wanted to support local bands, and they sure did!

7. Where would you like to act?

We’re not actors…

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

This is such a hard question! There are so many incredible bands and musicians we would like to feature! But if we have to choose one, in particular, we will probably choose Metallica, Muse, and maybe Bruno mars or even Lady gaga. We love making new and unpredictable fusions so we think it could create something unique!

9. Whom not?

People like Kanya west judge other cultures and ethnic preferences or religions. But we don’t hate or get angry at anyone. We just vibe a different way.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Well, to be honest, we have not. Yes, we lost control over our minds and bodies at the first few shows. But it was mostly because of the adrenalin and excitement rather than stage fright. Here's a great tip anyway, When you’re on stage, you have to realize you already passed the part when you are practicing for perfection. And now it’s time to just enjoy the moment. Most people in the crowd will probably never notice the mistakes you know you did during the show if you won’t let them see you made them. So just enjoy whatever comes, put on a big smile and positive energy, and let the crowd rile up with you and think everything is just the way you wanted it to be. People will forget a mistake after one night, But if they didn’t have fun… they will never forget. So Have fun!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There are so many really! But for me, personally, it will have to be Linkin Park!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

One time, at an all-vegan festival in north Israel, one fan who was super drunk came on stage and asked us to play on the spot a "peace song" for Arabs and Jews. He was so drunk that his breath almost made Yanir forget the "Walked through hell"’S lines and fall off the stage.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans!!! There are no words to describe the amount of appreciation and honor we feel toward them. They are the fuel that makes us take flight.

14. What do you think of our site?

Love it! we share your enthusiasm for metal music everywhere and we really think you’re doing a great job introducing awesome music and bands to Canada and the rest of the world! Thank you so much for having us on your site and hopefully next time we chat it will be face-to-face! Maybe at one of our shows in Canada, who knows?

15. Something to add?

Peace, love, and stay tuned for a new kind of metal genre you have never heard of before! Long live rock and roll.
