Interviews About Albums: Matt Geary - Ghost In The Western Trap (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Post-Hardcore artist Matt Geary to ask some questions about his upcoming album "Ghost In The Western Trap"

1. What can you say about the new Album?

I started writing this album in 2014. Now that it's finally finished and has a release date I'm glad to finally say it's complete. The album is a snapshot of my ability and headspace throughout the years. Now that the album is finished I feel a sense of "rebirth" for lack of a better term both as a person and as an artist.

2. What is the meaning of the album's name?

"Ghost in the Western Trap" means being stuck in the hell realms of existence. It can be tough navigating through the world. Everything is instant and fast-paced, and we are led to believe that happiness can be bought or ingested. The outside world pulls us away from being able to sit comfortably with ourselves to the point where some of us destroy ourselves with external stimuli and it is important to understand why. Feeling trapped can lead a person down some dark roads and no one is immune to suffering.

3. Who is the composer of the Album?

I wrote all of the guitar, synths, and piano. Bronwyn Beth wrote all of the violin pieces.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

"Bright Again" is my favorite. I love the cinematic ending and how the album ends on a hopeful note.

5. Is there a special message in this album?

If there is what it is? Yes. Love will save us and keep us alive. Hell is the absence of love.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

This album is a commentary without words.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, or someone you'd love to thank especially?

Musically I've always pulled inspiration from bands like Rosetta, Explosions in the Sky, Stars of the Lid, James Blackshaw, and various classical composers. Life experience and family made this album come to life. For that I am grateful.

8. Something to add?

It's not over until you're dead.
