Interviews About Albums: Throat Locust - Dragged Through Glass: Demo (2022)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Death Metal band Throat Locust to ask some questions about their latest album "Dragged Through Glass: Demo"

1. What can you say about this new album?

Gil: I am super happy with the Feedback we've received from this new album. We really put our hearts into producing those songs and I have no doubt that things will only get better from here

Alex: This album is just a small taste of what we have in store for those that like the old-school death metal sound, but we hope you enjoy it and share it with your friends.

Eric: a face-ripping introduction of what’s coming! We wanted to give you something short but sweet to hopefully get you stoked for more. It’s a hardcore death metal trip to thrash town slamming your face in the pit. Really love the reaction we’ve been receiving so far and can’t wait to put out some more tracks!

2. What is the meaning of the album name?

Gil: The name of the album is literally how you feel when listening to the music. Dragging you in and relentlessly cutting you with face-melting riffs and guttural vocals.

Eric: Exactly, just that visceral idea of spitting glass, ripping you apart.

3. Which one is the composer of the album?

Gil: Eric composed all songs on guitar for this release. Rob then threw his flavor on the drums. I wrote all lyrics for this release so it was very much a team effort, but it all came together beautifully.

Eric: Yea you can’t really say it was just one person. I wrote the guitar parts and general idea, but me and Alex broke down some parts and added each other’s feelings in it. The lyrics were all Gil and man did he slay on those! The bass we had our good bud Matt Wood come in before Adrian joined the band.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Gil: Easily would say "Axe Grinder" because it captures perfectly what Throat Locust is about. Having elements of everything all in one song is another reason I would choose this banger of a track above the rest.

Alex: My personal favorite is Axe Grinder, I really like the main verse riff and its Bolt Thrower-style feels. It is definitely a riff that I find playing in my head long after I'm done playing it.

Eric: Corruption and Greed is the most fun to play, but yea Axe Grinder for sure. That track hits all the right notes for me and seems everyone agrees as well lol. It’s one of those riffs that just stay with you all day and is still a brutal song, it’s perfect.

5. Is there a special message in this album? If there is what it is?

Gil: If there is something to take away from this album, it's that the world is a rough and ugly place filled with corruption, evil, and death. The only thing we can do is sharpen our weapons and prepare to fight for what we believe is right.

Eric: Take the world by its throat and drag it into the pit!

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Gil: I'm pretty proud of all the lyrics on the album but I think my personal favorite is the pre-chorus of Axe Grinder that goes "Grinding your axe, prepare for death, sharpen your weapon, off with their heads".

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Gil: Old School Death Metal has definitely been the main inspiration for this release, but personally I have been inspired by the idea of life and death. Also, the idea of governments and authority holding down our natural thought process brings me some inspiration.

Alex: Influences most important to me as of late include Dismember, Carcass, Impaled, early Arch Enemy, Integrity, and Ringworm.

Eric: I’ve always been more drawn to Old School Death like Bolt Thrower, Deicide, Obituary, and Death, but a lot of Texas Metal has really been in my ear, bands like Power Trip, Frozen Soul, Creeping Death, and Malignant Alter.

8. Something to add?

Gil: I wanna give a huge thanks to anyone and everyone who has checked out our music, don't sleep on Throat Locust. We'll have more music out before you know it, but for right now keep jamming 'Dragged Through Glass'!!

Eric: Thank you to everyone that has bought, shared, and talked about our release! It’s been amazing and happy that you dig the music we’ve created! You rule!
