Interviews: Thaumaturgy

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal/Death Metal projectThaumaturgy from the USA. Check out the interview and this amazing project.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

KT: The name was actually inspired by a phrase in the lyrics of a black metal band that has been a big inspiration in the music I create and even somewhat in life in general. The phrase was “Thaumaturgical Siege”

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

KT: The genre of Black/Death Metal or War Metal has always come very naturally to me. I’m also interested in some industrial and dark ambient among other things, but it seems when I write music it ends up in the style of Thaumaturgy.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

KT: I’m the only member of Thaumaturgy at this time.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

KT: I definitely don’t think I can claim to have a favorite band. There are too many that are excellent. I do have some that are very frequent listens for me though such as Incantation, Demoncy, or Profanatica.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

KT: The inspiration usually comes from whatever book I am reading at the time or some other thing I’m particularly interested in. That and experiences of the natural world. As for musical inspirations, those stay pretty consistent with the occasional new band that brings inspiration.

6. Where was your last gig?

KT: Thaumaturgy hasn’t played any live shows yet. The last gig I played personally was with a former death metal band of mine in Kansas. This has been at least ten years ago or so. I do very much enjoy playing live though when possible.

7. Where would you like to act?

KT: Canada or Texas would be great to play in. There are some excellent death metal groups from both areas.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

KT: I’d be happy to play with some bands in Canada that I enjoy quite a bit: Adversarial, Into Oblivion, Nuclear Hammer, and others in that area. Seems like that’d be a pretty killer show.

9. Whom not?

KT: This one I certainly don’t think about as much. In terms of metal bands, I suppose I’d prefer not to play anything related to Deathcore. It’s not so much my style.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

KT: I might have to a small degree. As long as you can delve heavily into the music's atmosphere and themes it should help.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

KT: I’ll give a very abbreviated list: Incantation, Demoncy, At the Gates, Averse Sefira, Beherit, Godflesh, Dead Can Dance, and many more.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

KT: No strange requests so far.

13. What do you think of your fans?

KT: I’m very happy and thankful that there are people out there who enjoy my vision enough to support me.

14. What do you think of our site?

KT: Admittedly I don’t have much experience with the site but I will be checking it out regularly from here on out.

15. Something to add?

KT: Continue to praise and hail the everlasting black gulf!
