Interviews: Truth To Power

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal/Hardcore band, Truth To Power from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

A politician came up with the name for the band. A politician used the phrase truth to power in a speech in a context that didn't sit well with me. The irony of the context and phrase was misleading. Something about that day and speech has always stuck with me. So it just felt natural to name the project Truth to Power.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

This genre chose me. I don't try to write hardcore or thrashy riffs that fit a genre or style per se I play guitar and write riffs and this is just what naturally comes out of me.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yeah, most of the members that have been a part of the lineup have had relationships with me prior to being a part of the band. In some cases, they were featured in songs prior to the EP.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Coalesce, Superjoint Ritual, Acid Bath, Converge

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We gather inspiration from many external sources. We write music as an outlet from the everyday grind and reality. We write lyrics that are outlets for things that piss us off. Our music and happy lyrics just don't go together.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was a charity show at Sweetwater Bar and Grill in Duluth, GA. It was a stacked lineup of locals and we sold the place out. We collected a lot of toys and money that night that went towards some local kid's charities in need for Christmas. It was an awesome time for a great cause.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to play some of the more prominent festivals in our area such as Furnace Fest. If we had to pick a venue it would be Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

If they were still playing, Superjoint Ritual as we identify a lot with them. Who would we want to play with that is currently active? probably Kublai Khan.

9. Whom not?

We tend to stray from bands that project a negative message. Bands like Attila.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I don't feel like stage fright is the right word for it, but pre-show anxiety is a real thing. I try to find something to take my mind off the show and save my energy for the show. I listen to headphones out in the van or socialize with fans to kill the time between load in and going on stage. Once I am onstage there is no greater feeling than performing.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Danzig inspired my vocal path. Acid bath was the band that really pushed me to find my sound and reflect my own style. Some others would be Deftones, Vision of Disorder, Snapcase.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Sweat-soaked shirt after a gig. It was pretty gnarly.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are the validation for all of the hard work, they are gold. Anyone willing to go to work and spend hard-earned money to see what we created is the greatest compliment any artist could ask for or receive.

14. What do you think of our site?

Very easy to get around and see what's going on. I find new artists and music on your site all the time which is very pleasing. It is tough to find new artists these days that really appeal to me.
