Track By Tracks: Topsy Turvy's - It Can´t Be Easy (2023)

1. NO SURRENDER:

To let go, or to never accept the worst even if it seems inevitable? The impression is sometimes given that things are summed up in binary reflections for the sake of ease, whereas nothing is so simplistic, and that doubt is frightening whereas it is legitimate, constantly permitted, and a source of solutions. How can we know if we should give up or not give up when faced with the extreme urgency of the climate when faced with political drifts when faced with the evils of our society?

2. YOU DON'T KNOW:

Can we assume that we would do better than someone else in the same situation? This song is about individualism, about being aware of our own privilege, our small place in the whole as individuals, our relationship with others, and the expectations we may have of each other.

3. NOT SO LONG:

Two years spent on this album deserved a song to explain the reasons. Between the difficulties linked to the DIY recording, the pandemic context, and desires of other things drowned in a stream of more or less credible excuses, what seemed interminable to us will finally turn out... not so long!

4. ARE WE STILL ALIVE:

Doesn't it make sense to feel bad in a world that seems horrible? This song is about introspection, about understanding yourself and the world, about searching in vain for meaning in reality. Perhaps melancholy is the most satisfying emotion after all?

5. FOREVER ALONE:

We sometimes have difficulty accepting that we are born and die alone and this is perhaps the reason why we sometimes fill our lives with the presence of others, whether it be good or bad company. To become aware of this loneliness and to accept it as a strength, is to gain the right to love others without needing them.

6. PERFECT DAY:

The idea that every day is worth living is hard to grasp when the days really suck. There is good to be learned from everything, but it is often easier and more comforting to dwell on the bad. If sometimes we need a little push to get the sun back in, then this song may be the background vibe for all the perfect days to come!

7. THE LAST SUMMER:

Meeting someone, falling in love, that person being in a relationship but in love with you too... the fear of saying it, of talking about it, of explaining it... suffering by the fact of ending this affair but also suffering by the fact that this relationship cannot be lived in the open.

8. QUESTION EVERYTHING:

How many times have we thought we could change things? Our actions feed the hope that things can change, and hope is essential to the will of our actions. This song is about our political activism and is a tribute to a friend who left far too soon.

9. SUFFOCATE:

With too many players in this game, it is the image of a society saturated by its desires of elsewhere and of virtual existence to the detriment of a population that suffocates in general indifference. To find other plans, to exist differently, to try to find a way to breathe again within a finite world becomes the new objective of our existence.

10. IT CANT BE EASY:

To re-establish equality is to accept to lose of one's privileges. It is not enough to show your support for the feminist cause, when you are a man, to become an ally. The loss of unjustly acquired advantages generates suffering, and this suffering is necessary to re-establish a more just relationship. Accept it and we will be there to welcome you with open arms.

11. NOTHING REMAINS:

Who do we think we are, and what choices do we think we have? How do we live with the idea that everything is determined and logical, that we have no control over anything, and that we are the result of an equation, of which we become one of the unknowns? This song is about self-perception, determinism, and questions the meaning of freedom/free will.
