Interviews: ROSSLYN

We recently had the opportunity to chat with the Spanish heavy metal band Rosslyn. With their unique blend of historical and mythological themes, Rosslyn has been making waves in the metal scene. In this interview, we talked about their band history, their future plans, and what inspires their music. Be sure to follow Rosslyn on their Facebook page for updates on their latest releases and upcoming shows.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

There was a bit of a search and documentation work here and there, but it was mainly chosen because, among other options, it was the one we all felt most appropriate.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Metal in every variant, and metal in particular is the genre we listen to the most to, and one we’ve all had while growing up. Creating through the genre is the most natural way of expressing ourselves creatively we have.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We did, except for Mikel, who we met in 2016 when joining Rosslyn. The rest of us have known each other from the night of times.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

For Borja (vocals), Elvenking. For Jorge (guitars) and Mikel (drums), Iron Maiden. For José (bass) it would be Edguy.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Mainly literature, History, and mythology. We do though often use all that as a vehicle for our opinions and ideas about themes such as human nature, or the meaning of life.

6. Where was your last gig?

That would be as for now Zaragoza (Spain) 28th January 2023.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere! If in the need of pointing out some, I’ll say there are some festivals we may just fit in quite well, such as Keep It True, Pyrenean Warriors O.A., Up the Hammers…

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Live it could be anyone, it’s always good fun. Not much of a fan of studio collaborations, though.

9. Whom not?

You don’t really want to hear hahaha.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Not really. There are gigs that get you more on your nerves than others, but there’s always the aim and need to give it all. It is one’s emotional state that affects a performance the most, so morale must be high and let oneself enjoy the thrill.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Inspiration comes practically from any band or artist you give a heart to, any phrase, a switch of the tempo, an interesting riff… the tiniest detail from a random song can motivate inspiration. The most influential bands for Rosslyn would be Iron Maiden, Manilla Road, Helloween, Black Sabbath and Dio, to name a few.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The normal in our band-fan relationship is for us to be the ones asking them for weird stuff. We have way too many inside jokes and memes that are not always easy to catch for fans.

13. What do you think of your fans?

People with excellent taste. Now seriously, we are very thankful to each and every person interested in giving us a listen or coming to the gigs.

14. What do you think of our site?

Great work, you guys promote loads of really interesting bands, unlike some other media who just write about the four big bands we all know.

15. Something to add?

We’re now promoting our second album “Totentanz”, to be released on 11th April 2023 with Sliptrick records. Pre-orders are already available at deadpulse.com, and on our Youtube channel Rosslyn Metal you’ll also find a first preview for the album, the track “Age of the Plague (Totentanz)”. Thanks so much for taking the time to interview us, a pleasure to answer. And of course, many thanks to all the readers!
