Pulo Revé - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Post-Hardcore band Pulo Revé from UK, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
It was strange, because it initially came out of an anagram of Pure Love (which also happens to be the ex-gallows frontman's old band) but we also found translations for the individual words: Pulo - Leap; and Revé - Return. It wasn't planned but we liked how it sounded, and we enjoy hearing people attempting to pronounce the name. Everyone has their own way, and the sort of mystery crossed with sheer accident make for an interesting name, we feel. Like with Rolo Tomassi, we hope are name will be associated without sound, rather than presumptions being made because of our name.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We've all been playing together since we were kids, so we moved through metal and heavy genres until we found a place we felt comfortable. Turned out we needed a multifarious sound: Jazz, soul, punk, blues, all imported into the post-hardcore genre. So we had to don the progressive post hardcore genre, which will hopefully be vague enough for everyone to let us do what we want.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yeah, Max, Laurie and Osh started a band in 2008 at school and Matty and Rob were in a band too. We sort of came together over time after various member swaps.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Max: Dillinger Escape Plan
Rob: Snarky Puppy
Laurie: Letlive.
Matty: Brand New
Oisin: At The Drive In
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Regarding lyrics, we like creating a story which will organically express both us and the audience. Performing music in general is a relationship and so you have to meet each other half way so when we write music and lyrics we make sure it's able to do that. With writing we sort of just sit down and record it in and then spend a longer drawn out period of time bouncing it back and forward between each other until it's right.
6. Where was your last gig?
We're on tour right now, heading to our second date in Brighton, having just hit Norwich. Still to come is Camden's Fiddlers Elbow on 12th May and the Horn in St Albans on 14th.
7. Where would you like to play?
We're in the preliminary planning stage of a Euro tour as we'd really love to play around the continent to see how other people respond to us.
8. Who would you like to feature with?
Allusondrugs, Falls, Palm Reader, as we love all their sounds. Bobbie saw allusondrugs and falls on tour together, and Osh saw them with Shikari. They're both rad bands, plus Palm Reader are just great. Rolo Tomassi, Letlive, and La Dispute would be a dream too.
9. Who not?
Trash boat: we grew up with those guys so we've got beef.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
I think we've all probably been nervous in the past, and in a sense we still get it before every show. It's about translating those feelings into energy live which is why we try to move around so much. It releases that energy.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Dillinger Escape Plan is a massive influence musically, La Dispute lyrically, and Letlive performance wise. We always try to inject a cocktail of other genres though. We aren't trying to copy these other bands, we want to utilise our other genre-influences in our genre.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
If they could colour in Robs tattoo. Matt was once given a stuffed doll in a cape. So far it's misty been pretty sane, but we will keep you updated
13. What do you think of your fans?
So far we've had a fantastic response. Everyone's been so energetic and supportive which is great on your first proper run of shows. So nothing but love
14. What do you think of our site?
Any site supporting the scene is fantastic! We need to get alternative music back into the ears of the disenfranchised, especially at a time of such austerity; where's punk at?
15. Something to add?
A little bit of olive oil in spaghetti before serving.
Thanks a lot guys. We hope to spend some time in Spain as soon as possible.
