Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Metalcore band An Elegy from UK, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, was it planned?

The name came about as it was something which really fits our vocalists (Sam) lyrical content and writing style. The name AN ELEGY sums up the whole theme (lyrically) of the EP. Also we thought it sounded good, so I guess you could say it was planned, ahaha.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

When writing our debut EP; 'EMBRACE THE RAIN', we never set out to write it to fit a certain genre. It's hard to explain but we just wrote it. Obviously we wanted to make it heavy, we're a heavy band, but at the same time we wanted to incorporate all aspects of metal we love, which I feel is very apparent in our EP. I feel that we cover a lot of different styles of metal in our EP and we just wrote the music we would want to listen to ourselves and enjoy playing live, which 'EMBRACE THE RAIN' is a great reflection of. We have given ourselves the subgenre of 'metalcore' but at the end of the day, we are just a 'Heavy Metal' band.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yeah we did. Me (Suraj) and Sam have been together since the age of 11 as we met in school. Our other guitarist, Kieran, we met at the age of   14. Us 3 have been playing in bands together since that age! We then met Adam when we were 16 as he joined an old band we were in. So us 4 have been together for the past 3/4 years now and we are as close as we can be. Stephan came into the equation a bit later on but still has known us for over a year now and has fit perfectly into our family. So yeah, we have all known each other before AN ELEGY and I truly believe that is one of the reasons the band has become what it is today. Something we are genuinely proud to be apart of, our family!

4. Each band members favourite band?

We all love music, we listen to a very diverse selection. Going from grime to acoustic, metal to hip hop, edm to pop, we just appreciate music for being good music. However, we have a lot of bands that have shaped us today and that we look up to. I wouldn't say we individually have one favourite band, but if we had to pick;

Suraj: Architects

Sam: Linkin Park/Slipknot

Adam: Hundredth

Kieran: Parkway Drive

Stephan: Slipknot

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our inspiration to write music comes from growing up listening to all aspects of music. Going to gigs, from an early age, watching our favourite bands perform made us want nothing else in life other than to tour! Thus, we have drawn inspiration from all the bands we grew up with. Instrumentally, I would say our main influences would be bands such as; Northlane, Fit For A King, In hearts Wake, Counterparts etc...Lyrically, Sam writes about what means most to him and experiences/struggles throughout his life which have shaped him today.

6. Where was your last gig?

With AN ELEGY we have only just gone public. We had a bunch of shows lined up, but unfortunately our Guitarist Suraj incurred a severe head injury skateboarding 6 weeks ago which has meant we have had to cancel all our upcoming shows until his situation has cleared. However, we have a bunch of shows booked for August and after, includinig a run of Europe shows in October!

7. Where would you like to play the most?

AMSTERDAM. Defintely Amsterdam, ahaha. However we'd love to be a part of the Vans Warped Tour, that is a dream. But to be honest we'd love to play anywhere and everywhere, we just want to tour the world.

8. With whom would you like to play with the most?

There are to many bands to list. In a dream obviously the dominant names we look up to; Slipknot, Deftones, Bring Me The Horizon, August Burns Red, Architects etc... However we would also love to get to tour alongside bands such as; Counterparts, Northlane, In Hearts Wake, Stray From The Path, Hundredth, Fathoms etc...But to be honest there are far too many to name.

9. Whom not?

I wouldn't say there are any bands out there we wouldn't want to avoid playing with. We'd appreciate any tour and show we got put on and respect all other bands playing alongside us.

10. Any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yeah definitely, when you first play gigs it is a nerve racking experience. However, once you've played a few they get easier and easier. Tips for beginners would be to lose yourself in your music. Don't concentrate on the people watching you so much as you should concentrate on enjoying yourself and playing your music. Let go and put on a good show.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Once again, it's hard to pin point. There are so many bands we listen to as well as all other styles of music we love. I feel that all of these bands/artists/Dj's will have all played a part, one way or another, in what AN ELEGY is today. Through passion for live music and watching people perform, that is our biggest inspiration.  Just a few of those bands on that long list; Slipknot, Architects, In Hearts Wake, Enter Shikari, Northlane, Suicide SIlence etc....

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven't had anything bizarre happen this early in our career.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We still find it mad that this early into the bands career we already have fans and people who genuinely care about what we do. Anyone who takes a second to check us out and follow/support our band is a massive deal to us. It genuinely means so much to us to see people take interest in what we do and we are truly grateful for every individual who helps/supports this band in any form whatsoever. We love our fans, makes doing this completely worth it!

14. What do you think of our site?

It's great to see people out there still putting so much effort into the underground scene of upcoming bands. It's so good to see how much you are supporting the smaller bands. We really respect what you're doing and we're so happy that you've given us a chance to be a part of it!

15. Something to add?

If anyone reads this interview, please take a second to check us out. Our debut EP; 'EMBRACE THE RAIN' drops July 27TH available on all digital platforms! Thank you so much guys!
