Koshiro - Interview
Hey, Breathing The Core fans, here we bring you another interview of the Metalcore band Koshiro from UK, so here you can see and give a like to his FACEBOOK PAGE. We have nothing more to say, so enjoy this interview!
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We're named after the genius that is Yuzo Koshiro, a video game music composer from Japan who wrote the soundtrack for Streets of Rage, amongst countless others. Basically his music is SO DAMN GOOD that we thought naming ourselves after him would channel some of his awesomeness into our sound. So far, all it's done has caused us to waste countless more hours playing our Sega Mega Drive... productivity has taken a hit.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We’ve all come from a rock music background of sorts and eventually it seemed like metalcore was the common ground we wanted to settle on. We love loads of bands from this genre and think its thriving massively, especially in the UK. We love heavy music and our music has heart and soul!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Not at all really, we all pretty much came together at the point of the band's incarnation. If we knew each other before or were in some way related, our dynamic would be very different and probably wouldn't work - we all have that one thing in common, being there from the start. It's what keeps us pretty solid and allows us to take each other seriously - not knowing what kind of idiots we used to be (we’re totally still idiots).
4. Each band member favourite band?
It’s fairly varied, but our singer Ben is a bit Deftones nut, guitarist Ben and drummer Craig have always been huge fans of Avenged Sevenfold, while guitarist Tom favourites have always been Metallica (he’s so dedicated he’s got a tattoo). We all harbour a deep and unrequited love for Taylor Swift.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We inspire each other through our unique input as well as some fantastic modern and progressive artists who have a massive impact on the way we craft song structure, melody, etc. Bring Me the Horizon have nailed the simple but effective approach, while the likes of Within the Ruins have such intricate instrumentals it makes us strive to be better.
6. Where was your last gig?
Haha, we played at a Working Men’s Club in our guitarist Tom’s hometown Portishead. It was a birthday bash for a local promoter and was totally not the usual crowd we play to, we definitely had to win them round. We played a lot of new tracks and crammed in a lot we’ve wanted to play for a while, we had a lot of fun and a lot of people were digging it. We love the gigs that aren slightly out of the norm, they help us adapt to an all manner of situations.
7. Where would you like to perform?
The dream has to be at a major UK festival and hopefully we’re not far off that. We’d love to play a late evening slot in the sunshine with the crowd nice and drunk, anticipating the bigger acts and not expecting our delightful onslaught.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We’d love to open for an exciting British act like Bring Me the Horizon, Architects or maybe some bands we’ve been told we sound a tad like – Of Mice & Men and Beartooth.
9. Whom not?
We can’t imagine we’d be suited to opening for Olly Murs or some other faceless TV talent show fop, even if he does have a nice smile.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
A little bit yes, and we usually tackle it by drinking excessively. We don’t recommend that, of course. Take a load of deep breaths, imagine everybody in the audience is naked and try not to get too excited. If all else fails, tell the audience you feel nervous and they’ll offer encouragement (or they’ll mock you, it’s a risk you have to take).
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
The bands we are surrounded by in the Bristol scene have always helped us step up our game and keep us on our toes. We obviously want to keep up with them but nothing makes us work harder than witnessing their successes.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Probably to sign something (What, us? Really? It won’t be worth anything, honestly).
13. What do you think of your fans?
They really are nice to us and always make our currently tiny egos inflate slightly. They make us feel quite embarrassed when they ask us to sign t-shirts.
14. What do you think of our site?
It seems really great and gives bands like us a good platform to promote themselves, which is fantastic! Keep up the good work.
15. Something to add?
Kiss your mother goodnight and make sure you eat 5 fruits/vegetables every day.
