Interviews: Vesuvius

In this new occassion we have had the pleasure to interview the Metalcore/Metal band Vesuvius, from Canada. Check out this band because they are amazing and do not forget to follow them in their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name Vesuvius was based more so on the sound of the word rather than any distinct symbolism. Some of the conceptualization on our first record "My Place of Solace and Rest" derives from traditional basque culture and language which was popular in the era and region of where Mount Vesuvius originally was prior to eruption.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Vesuvius plays with a mix of a few different metal and rock genres in order to be sonically unique. We try to incorporate as many influences we can from music we grew up with in an attempt to blend our introduction to metal with the state of metal and alternative music today.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

All of us had played in previous bands together growing up. We pride ourselves in coming together organically and strive to incorporate that chemistry into our live performance.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Ben: My personal two favourite bands growing up were The Used and My Chemical Romance. Many of the big choruses and heavily orchestrated elements you hear on a Vesuvius song is thoroughly influenced by those two bands. Billy's favourite band is Thirty Seconds to Mars, Robin's favourite band is Greeley Estates, Mike's favourite band is Between the Buried and Me and Carter's favourite band is Asking Alexandria.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our embark into discovering what inspires Vesuvius to be something meaningful is very much having a creative journalistic output on personal events that have been significant in our lives. Our first record is composed of personal anecdotes that each have their own specific meaning, but come together to create a linear human experience. Being able to share experiences and connect in such a way with listeners is what inspires us to take Vesuvius to the greatest peak it is willing to go.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was in our hometown of Ottawa for a Christmas canned food drive event. Tons of local bands that we grew up playing alongside came out, always a blast!

7. Where would you like to act?

Ideally, we want to take our art everywhere we possibly can. We would love to tour overseas in Europe and Asia when the opportunity comes.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There are so many fantastic artists and musicians out there today pushing something original. We strive to create something that is accessible for any form of collaboration. I personally would love to work on a track with Jason Aalon of letlive. The emotion he brings to his art is impeccable and would be amazing to hear over a Vesuvius piece.

9. Whom not?

We're all very open minded musically and therefore the expanse of who we would be willing to work alongside creatively is vast. However, we wouldn't be willing to work with anyone that doesn't put 100% of their soul into what they do.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

The way I overcome stage fright is to allow the pedestal that is a live stage to be a podium. Allowing the stage to be empowering is a great way of belittling the challenge that is impressing your audience. Another good method is to envision your performance from their perspective; if I put on a performance that I would be happy witnessing as an audience member, I can leave the venue feeling fulfilled.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We draw inspiration from quite a few different bands. When it comes to writing longer songs with little repetition like we do stylistically, we look to bands like Queen or Avenged Sevenfold to inspire how to structure a long, powerful piece but maintain a solid level of entertainment throughout.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven't encountered anything too strange quite yet! I am also beyond flattered whenever a fan asks for any piece of personal merchandise such an autograph or a photo.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are the centrepiece that keeps what we do in motion. We cannot be more thankful for the amount of support we've gotten thus far on the small amount of material we've had the opportunity to release.

14. What do you think of our site?

It seems like you guys are doing a great job of promoting and helping out smaller unsigned bands, and that is something we will always support. Keep doing what you guys are doing, keep the scene alive!

15. Something to add?

Thank you very much for the interview! We are putting out our debut record on May 6th, and you can pre-order it at the link below! See you on the road!
