Interviews: Set For The Sky
In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock/Post-Hardcore band Set For The Sky, from UK. Check out this band because they are amazing and do not forget to follow them in their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
When the band first started, (when only the two founding members Alex(drums) and James(vocals) were in the band), Alex decided on the the name. Back then it didn't have much meaning, it was just a name. But over the years the name slowly turned meaningful and now it's what we stand for and the message that our music carries. "Reach for the starts", "dream big", that kind of cheesy stuff.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
We never specifically decided on a genre. We kinda all just did whatever we liked, And the combination of our music tastes ended up with what we have now. In our local music scene, we are quite the outcasts. We are too heavy for commercial shows and too light for heavy shows. So there's this awkward gap that we are filling in, but I guess it also keeps us versatile and unique.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Founding members James and Alex pretty much knew each other since before they had toes. Jeandre(bass) and Trent(guitar) knew each other from school years.
4. Each band member favourite band?
James: XXI
Alex: Eskimo Callboy
Trent: Periphery
Jeandre: Ice Nine Kills
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Everything and anything. From our dreams and goals, to our idols doing what we want to do, to emotional outlets, to our fans and even our home gurl T-Swift.
6. Where was your last gig?
At the time of interview, we are on a South African National tour and our last venue played was the amazing Rumours Lounge in Johannesburg.
7. Where would you like to act?
Warped Tour please. Thanks Vans :)
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Without a doubt, it will have to be Taytay.
9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Not hardcore stage fright as in being frozen on stage, but definitely had some nerves in the beginning, and still from time to time for the bigger shows. Our trick is to just jump in the deep end. Turn that nerves into excitement and just GO. One or two songs in and you wont even remember that you were nervous in the first place. As a young philosopher once said: "JUST DO IT!"
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
A local band here called Red Helen changed our lives. These guys have played at Wacken Metal fest in germany. Cannot wait to see these guys blow up. And pretty much any band signed to rise and fearless records.
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
James' clothes. ;)
12. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are absolutely amazing and is one of the reasons why we love doing what we do. The fans are just as much a part of this band as us four on stage. Set For The Sky is a family.
13. What do you think of our site?
Super professional looking! Really cool platform to discover music and bands.
