Interviews: Horcrux

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Horcrux, from Canada. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Ryan our bassist is actually the one that came up with the name. We wanted something dark, and Horcrux was in our brain storm of ideas. For those who don't know, Horcrux are actually magical objects from the Harry Potter series.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I personally always wanted to play in a band that was heavy, fast and groovy. Me and Scott always wrote songs in this genre, but never really did anything with them. Now that we got a clean slate, fresh project, we're doing what we've always wanted to do.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Most of us used to actually be in a band together called Of Reverie, we had our first tours together and all. I knew drummer, Zack from his band, and when my first band played a show with his band,I fell in love with his drumming. We asked him if he wanted to audition and picked him right away.

4. Each band member favourite band?

In no specific order: The Word Alive, Veil of Maya, Architects, Erra, In Flames, Plot In You, Underoath, My Chemica Romance. We all listen to pretty much the same music.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Scott's the main writer of the band, and he answers:
It's hard to pin point anything really. But I try to work on capturing real emotion in anything I'm writing because if you can do that you tend to avoid writers block and you're able to keep your ideas much more concise. That being said, I also love drawing inspiration from other songs of all styles. Hearing a certain beat or note interval and understanding why it stands out, then taking a similar concept and applying it to my own song writing always yields some cool results.

6. Where was your last gig?

Personally my last gig was with ASD in San Diego at the SOMA, November 15th. That was one of the funnest show's I've ever played. The energy from the crowd was insane.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere I haven't been really. ASD got offered a Australian and New Zealand run last summer but it got cancelled a couple of weeks before we headed out. I was super bummed. So Australia is definitely on the top of the list for me. Then Europe.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I would love to feature with Tycho. My friend recently got me into their music. They perfected the whole atmospheric aspect of music to me. It's something so easy to listen to while you're driving at night.

9. Whom not?

Honestly I'd like to feature with any one, any genre. Maybe not country music.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think that every musician experiences stage fright in his life. But the thing is, as dreadful as those first minutes feel, they fuel your passion so much more. I always love the feeling of being nervous for a show, but then I get out there, play music, and all I can think about is playing a good show.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Power Metal band Sonata Arctica did. They were the band that I fell so in love with as a teenager to the point I wanted to spend all my allowance on a walmart guitar and a 10 watt amp and start guitar lessons.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I unfortunately haven't experienced something out of this world weird yet. I wish I had.

13. What do you think of your fans?

There's honestly only one thing to say and that's thank you so much for sticking by my side.

14. What do you think of our site?

I really like it, it's easy to navigate through your website. I fancy the logo.

15. Something to add?

It's almost the end of week 1 for Horcrux and we thank you all so much. We hit #50 and have been on the iTunes charts since Friday and that's such a great feeling. Tickets are now available for our debut show, please follow us on all social media if you haven't already: @HorcruxOttawa
