I AM assaults the masses with their maiden full-length, Life Through Torment, a brutalizing, by-the-throat album which consumes twenty-eight minutes through ten unrelenting tracks recorded, produced, and mixed by Ryan Harvey at Red Oak Collective, mastered by Jacob Pouttu. MetalSucks claims, "Sometimes you just need breakdowns. Big, fat, burly ones that kick you in the nuts, the stomach and the teeth all at the same time... Fortunately I AM aren't just a one-trick pony: they speed things up to a classic death metal clip for the song's chorus, and a Spartan but effective mid-song guitar solo hits the spot just right." No Clean Singing reports, "If you're in the mood to find some peace, some human warmth, and perhaps some faith in the decency of your fellow beings in a perilous time, Life Through Torment isn't the refuge you're looking for. But if you want to let out a building tumor of rage, or just revel in a savage metallic beatdown, give this a shot."

A 9.5/10 review from New Transcendence praises, "It's tough to pick a word (or even a sentence) that truly captures what Life Through Torment is really like... where some bands maintain a facade of violence, I AM create it with every note, chug, slam, riff and syllable screamed. I AM is a tidal wave of suffocating, sinister violence-the kind that won't kill you, but will make you suffer through every excruciating second you spend in this realm of existence." PureGrainAudio's review includes, "All in all, I got the feeling I was fearfully - but with slight masochistic intent - meandering through a black, underground tunnel, with decaying bodies occasionally blocking my path; the smell of death, intermittent glimpses of flickering lights, eventually reaching an opening to a desolate rotting earth with a dark, turbulent red sky, and Wonderbox Metal issues, "It's raucous, belligerent and resolutely won't be tamed. There's more than enough heavy hostility here to keep fans of this kind of thing happy, and I count myself among them. It's hard to keep still while listening to this."
