Interviews: Oceans Asleep

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Metalcore band Oceans Asleep, from France. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band was founded Theo with the help of Melvin. He chose the name as a tribute for his love to the sea where he lives nearby. Oceans Asleep refers to the sleeping beauty that lies both in the depths within and in each other. It synthesizes the idea that human kind is capable of doing the best and the worst of itself. We stand for some kind of an individual revolution that could occurs with the help of arts and self « enlightenment".

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Metalcore as always been our musical mothership. This music helps dealing with anger issues and the lack of self confidence. Plus, when you get to play it live in packed basement it takes out the violence within. We also listen to pop music (lana del rey, drake), hip hop (nekfeu, bones), electronic music (chymera, lake people) but the « core » scene remains our 1st love.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes (Theo, Melvin are best friends for years) and No (Clement, Adrien and Hugo just joined in).

4. Each band member favourite band?

Theo: Vices
Clement: Counterparts
Melvin: While She Sleeps
Adrien: Erra
Hugo: Tesseract

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It’s actually the experiences we go through that do so. It’s a mix of situations and people that brings a song.

6. Where was your last gig?

In Italy, a pub called la Vecchia Scuola. We already played this venues last year with OHOH (uk) & Imminence (Sw). The crowd is nice but the stage is even nicer.

7. Where would you like to act?

In every basement, houses and places that welcomes us. Also festivals and tours. We just love to play no matter the « technical » conditions.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Our favorite bands. Our friends. Sharing the stage with great acts, or simply great human being, is always a treat.

9. Whom not?

Basically no one. As long as a band is respectful towards the others acts he’s sharing a stage with there’s no problem to be. Even if we get to deal with a jerk act we wouldn't cancel at all. 10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that? Of course! « Every great artist suffers from it. » (lol). It’s a great energy to work with. Being impatient to get on stage and blow the steam out. Just don’t focus on the audience, only on your performance.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I’d say While She Sleeps for the amazing journey they’re on and on how well they documented it. Being As An Ocean for bringing so much love and self acceptance to the scene, being listened by all different kind of people. To be honest it’s not a specific band but music nowadays that inspires us the most. Every act bringing its own brick to a whole.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Signing a black t-shirt with a black marker.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re mostly scene friends and we salute them. Playing shows with just a bunch of them moshing like hell to songs they’ve never heard. That’s priceless.

14. What do you think of our site?

Webzine likes yours are so important, today more than ever. It’s the survival of journalism against direct marketing in the age of social networks. You’re the 1st interview for the promotion of our EP and we’re grateful fo that.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for your time and support. Our band is a mix of 5 very different people, background and stories and music brought us together. Behind our EP’s title, « Lungs Wide Open » there’s this idea that in this time of globalism we need to be open-minded and embrace more than erase.

Clement for Oceans Asleep.
