Interviews: Seven Stories High

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band Seven Stories High, from UK. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We got the band name from our first day writing in my (Rhys) flat. We were on the seventh floor of the flat and wrote a lyric about being, seven stories high. When we needed to finally name the band, the lyric became more than that, we thought back, we realised that Dave, Matt and I had been in a band with six different singers, this being the seventh, and because of that we couldn’t think of a better name to represent.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Pop-Punk has always had a special place for us. We grew up listening to bands like Blink-182 and Sum 41, and then as we grew up we fell in love with others such as Kids in Glass Houses, The Wonder Years and Four Year Strong. It was just natural that when we started to write music it would come out in a similar genre being influenced by those bands.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Matt and I (Rhys) have been in bands together since we were about 11. I originally played drums and Dave played the Bass. When the band before Seven Stories High ended, I said that I wanted to try again, but this time I wanted to try singing, as we had never had any luck in having a singer before, Dave also wanted to try drums so we had a few practices with another friend of ours Sam on bass. We quickly learnt that we needed another guitarist so Sam, moved onto guitar and we auditioned for a bassist which led us to Charlie. Charlie fit in well, and when we started writing ideas and music flowed nicely. Unfortunately things didn’t work out with Sam, and so we needed another guitarist. We couldn’t find one, so Charlie moved onto guitar and we Auditioned Kallum on bass. With this change the band sparked, Charlie was a more natural guitarist and Kallum’s vocals added a new layer to the music.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Rhys: My favourite band at the moment would have to be the Wonder Years.

Matt: For me it’s Letlive

Charlie: I am a massive fan of Biffy Clyro

Kallum: Don Broco

Dave: I can’t choose between A Day to Remember and Four Year Strong.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We take inspiration from everywhere around us. Our upcoming release ‘Deadweight’ is based on a narrative which we have written based on our experiences with Mental Health, whether personal or through someone we know.

6. Where was your last gig?

Out last gig was in The Pit, in our hometown of Swansea, on the First day of the Fringe Festival. It was an awesome gig, it’s such a fun space to play, and you can get right into the crowd which we always like to do. The festival was awesome too. It was so cool getting so many bands from all over to come down and bring some awesome music to Swansea.

7. Where would you like to act?

As many places as we possibly can really. I mean everyone has the dream of playing massive stages, and huge festivals, but at this point we just want to play to as many people as possible.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

The list is too long to answer, there are some many awesome bands we would love to work with.

9. Whom not?

We can’t really think of anyone off the top of our head, working with anyone would have some merit.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think we all suffer from stage fright in some aspect, and as a band we help each other work through it. The best way we would suggest is to just get your self psyched up through a big group warm up. Before we go on stage we like to all get together choose a song that we all love, jump around and sing to it. It gets your energy up, warms up your muscles and your vocal chords whilst also releasing any nerves.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We all have different bands we listen to, and they all inspire us in different ways Its hard to pin in particular bands that have inspired us because we have such a varied mixture of genre that the we all listen to. But if you pushed us, I think we could say, The Wonder Years, Kids in Glass houses, Four Year Strong.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

It’s weird when they ask us for anything. If we ever get asked to sign anything or for a picture it’s very strange for us, but also super cool.

13. What do you think of your fans?

To us are fans our just like our friends because we just want to hang out and play some music. Everyone at any gig is always welcome to com hang out afterwards or come say hello, it’s always awesome meeting new people.

14. What do you think of our site?

The site is awesome. We love it when any site pays attention to upcoming artists and spreads the word about them, it’s how music grows and that’s what we are all about
