A-Z Interview: Eat Defeat

A Song Which Made You Want To Make Music:

Fat Lip by Sum 41.

Best Album Ever Written:

Red by Taylor Swift.

Craziest Moment You’ve Experienced In The Band:

Touring Japan.

Deepest Lyrics One Of Your Songs Features:

'Get Fucked' - Duvet Day

Easiest Song You Wrote:

Nothing's Wrong I guess kind of wrote itself? Same with Shortcuts I guess. The songs people seem to like the most, haha.

Favourite Show You’ve Ever Played:

o2 Academy with Reel Big Fish, Anti Flag and Mad Caddies. It was completely surreal.

Guest You’d Most Like To Feature On A Your Record:

Carly Rae Jepsen.

Happiest Moment In You’ve Experienced In The Band:

On this most recent tour, the breakdown in 'Can't Say I'll Miss You' and being able to hear people actually singing along has made me smile every night. Knowing that people are listening and it's resonating with them, you know?

Interesting Fact About One Of Your Members:

Steve works for Burnley Football Club. I thought that was funny until I realised they're actually really good now and are in the Premier League/Europe.

Jokes You Have In The Band:

Too many. Jimmy once ate a sandwich, fell asleep and missed the first 3 songs of a set we played. He's never lived that down.

Kicking Off Your Set Is Best With Which Song:

Right now, Smile. It's a joyful punch in the face.

Longest Distance You’ve Travelled To Play A Show:

Japan! Before that, i'd guess Croatia or Hungary.

Most Inspiring Musician You’ve Ever Experienced:

WWE's Elias.

New Band You’d Recommend:

Havelocke. Amazing early AFI/MCR inspired punk rock.

Opening For This Band Would Be Ideal:

New Found Glory would be an amazing one!

Place You’d Most Like To Tour:

Well we already did Japan, so I'd say Australia would be next on the list.

Quote That You’d Like To Pass On To Readers:

It's alright to not be alright.

Reason For The Title Of Your Recent/Forthcoming Release:

It's basically about trying to maintain a positive outlook when situations seem their darkest. A mantra to deal with mental health struggles, i guess.

See Us Live At:

Well this UK tour is nearly over, but we'll be back in mainland Europe in November with our friends in The Human Project.

The Old Days Of Music Were Better Than Those Current, do you agree:

Not necesarily. I love a lot of modern bands like Boston Manor and Trash Boat, but we're obviously heavily influenced by 2000's pop punk.

Unusual Merchandise:

We've never had anything that weird sadly! We did back our pin badges on Pokémon energy cards which was fun.

Variations You’d Like To Do On Any Of Your Songs:

Jimmy is working on a 90s house inspired remix album.

What Bands Have You Seen Live and Regretted:

I remember walking out of a support bands set back in the early 2000s because they were completely unlistenable. That band? Fallout Boy. I saw them a couple of years ago and they were a bit better though, Pete Wentz still can't play bass though.

X-rays or any other treatments needed for band related in juries:

Actually a lot. Jimmy twisted or fractured or sprained his ankle in Germany during a tour and had to play the remaining shows on crutches. Rich has had an absolute Mick Foley-esque list of injuries too, the more recent being issues with his wrists which resulted in me and him switching instruments. Fun times.

You could have written any song in history, which would you pick:

Rosanna by Toto.

Zoo animal that best describes the personality of your band:

An Opossum.
