Interviews: Heathen Beast

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal band Heathen Beast from India. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

HB: When we first got together and started jamming we had the idea of the kind of music we wanted to me. We also shared a common hatred for religion and were all atheists. So with our ideology in place we wanted a name that would stand up to that. Heathen Beast fit the style, sound and ideology we had. We are heathens and a beast that cannot be stopped.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

HB: We are all big fans of Norwegian black metal and it's a genre that is rooted in the hatred for organized religion. It's what came to us naturally when we jammed in our initial years. We decided while we love the sound and style of black metal, we wanted to give it our own spin and create a sound that represents us. Later on when we felt the need speak against the politics of this country, we found a sound more towards grindcore that suited the message we wanted to send. At the end of the day we don't restrict ourselves to a particular style, we play what fits the message that we're trying to spread.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

HB: The original members of the band knew each other before the band was formed. However we've grown from a band into a collective and we've met like minded people along the way and involved them in this project. For all intents and purposes the names of the members are always the same, but who is behind the name, changes constantly.

4. Each band member favourite band?

HB: As we are a collective we're inspired by all kinds of music right from metal to Hindustani classical. We are inspired by the world around us and the events that unfold. The cancer of religion inspires us, how it breeds hate and how it controls people. This is our inspiration.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

HB: As we said above, the world inspires us. The events of the world, religion, politics. God is a tool to enslave the masses and we are hoping to set them free with our music.

6. Where was your last gig?

HB: We have never played live.

7. Where would you like to act?

HB: We are not actors. 8. Whom would you like to feature with?

HB: We would love to be along any of the Norwegian black metal legends.

9. Whom not?

HB: No-one.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

HB: We've never played live so never had that problem.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

HB: The early Norwegian black metal scene. Bands like Mayhem, Darkthrone, Bathory, Venom, Celtic Frost, Emperor. More recently bands like Anaal Nathrakh and Hate Eternal. We also do love bands like Marduk and Dark Funeral.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

HB: In the online world we have thankfully not been at the receiving end of this weirdness. We have received threats of violence of course. But those are not fans, those are political goons and religious trolls.

13. What do you think of your fans?

HB: We couldn't be more grateful for them, we have received incredible support from them. HAILZ TO THE HEATHEN ARMY!!!

14. What do you think of our site?

HB: We love what you do and the support you extend to the music. It's great to see a website so passionate and honest. HAILZ!

15. Something add?

HB: Thank you for the interview and hope some of your readers will check out our music. HAILZ!!!
