Interviews: Jack Rabbit Slams

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock band Jack Rabbit Slams from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name was a nightmare, any band name you pick sounds shit until it doesn’t. But, Long story short the restaurant in Pulp Fiction is called “Jack Rabbit Slims” which I had always misheard as “Slams” and that was pretty much it. It’s not really a tribute to the film or to Tarintino or anything like that, more just a nod. The main thing is we refused to be called “the” something like every other band in a 5-million-mile radius.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We are all fans of rock music but that incorporates a whole list of sub-genres these days. We knew we wanted to be heavy because that’s what we like, but we wanted it to sound fresh and different so there are a few genres thrown into the mix. We try not to restrict ourselves too much when we write. If it sounds good and feels good when we go with it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I and Sean go back to youth group when we were 13/14. It was run by a guy called Andy Livingston and he is the reason we are in a band. He put on gigs and gave us somewhere to rehearse all at his own cost so we owe a great deal to him. Sean liked metal and I(Rob) liked rock so we didn’t see eye to eye for a few years. Archie we’ve only known a short time as he’s just joined. But he’s sound, we wouldn’t have let him in if he was an arsehole.

4. Each band member favorite band?

That’s a really really really hard question but;

Rob: Sex Pistols

Sean: Deftones

Archie: Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We are all obsessed with music. That is essentially our drive for everything. Music connects people, its inclusive of everyone. On a personal level, it's therapeutic to turn an amp up or hit drums and blast tunes to an audience but even then, it’s still about connecting with people. It’s complete escapism from your day-to-day life whether it's listening to or performing music

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at La Belle Anglele in Edinburgh.

7. Where would you like to play?

We’ll play anywhere as long as there’s an audience who want to listen

8. Who would you like to support?

Anyone in the world? Got to be Foo Fighters. Would be good to get a shot of their big AC/DC style runway that goes out into the crowd.

9. Who not?

Kanye West. He was funny at first but the guys a complete lunatic and his tunes are shit. Our dream is to one day buy all the tickets for one of his shows and just have us three on our own in the middle of the arena shouting “boooo!” at the end of each track. The guy needs to be taken down.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Rob gets really nervous about 30mins before stage time but once we’re on its all systems go! Not really any advice to give for beginners other than just power through it and go for it!!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Queens of the stone age, Deftones, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Sex Pistols, RHCP, GnR, the Doors. Too many to mention really.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Once outside a gig in Glasgow Rob had come straight from work and was out on the street changing his clothes. The girl comes up and asks what we were doing so explained we were in a band and playing a show that night, we sold her and her friend a ticket and they asked Rob if they could keep his socks (striped black and yellow) as a souvenir. We obliged, think we tried to sign them as well.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Best fans in the world.

14. What do you think of our site?

Great website, need more things like this promoting real bands and real music from the underground.

15. Something to add?

Our video comes out on 12/06/19 Our single comes out on 14/06/19 We have a new single coming asap as well as our album so keep an eye out for that and give us a follow on the old social media to keep updated.
