Interviews: Born Zero

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal band Born Zero from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We came up with the name Born Zero because it represents our generation of people. All of the band members were born in 2000 but the name is also a reference to our generation being lost, we are all zeros fighting for something while the world is crashing down around us and it’s the human races fault for this, we are the generation that has to live in a dysfunctional society and the planet our elders left for us . Also, we all have a freakish attitude to ourselves when we play live, we try to act like zeros, freaks to represent ourselves and our name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Levi – It’s a more direct approach of displaying how the band feels and it’s the best genre ever!

Charlie – I’ve always been into weird things and things that are not the norm, metal, and rock is where I belong and I want to play something that is our own style and won’t be overproduced for money/sell-ability.

Iggy – This is the genre that I am able to express my true feelings in, bashing a guitar and screaming my head off is a great thing to do. Metal is the furthest place you can go with music, it ticks all the boxes.

Tom – You can have a lot of fun on stage with this genre. There are no rules!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Iggy and Charlie founded the band back in primary school (year 4) when they wanted to be something like the bands that influence us today. Iggy had already been playing guitar for a couple of years prior to this, and He het Charlie when he moved schools. Iggy started to talk about metal and rock bands to Charlie, he told him to check out slipknot and Rage Against the Machine and the next day Charlie said “I want to start a metal band”! and saw himself as a drummer. They got a band together and started jamming covers with each other, doing a few local shows outside of school. This made them determined to carry this forward.

Iggy met Levi through the previous Bass player for Born Zero. Iggy invited Levi to a Rehearsal because they had very similar music taste and he was a singer. They started jamming some Kill Switch Engage for Levi to sing over and he absolutely nailed it. It was the sound the band was looking for. Ever since we’ve either been jamming heavy tunes or looking for the closest party!

Iggy met Tom at secondary school. He was in the year below Iggy, so they didn’t really know each other until the end of school when they were both asked to be part of the live band for a theatre piece the school where holding. They got talking and found out they were both was huge metal fans and that was it, you couldn’t shut them up talking about guitar gear and band stuff!Iggy thought Tom had a unique playing style due to him mixing quite blues sounding riffs with a Black Sabbath sort of influence and then mixing that with an aggressive metal sound. After the original bassist left due to creative differences and people tried to audition for the spot, the band straight away thought of Tom who had been their guitar tech through all the band changes and got him in! He is the newest recruit and has been killing it ever since!

Charlie – I have and still do today depending on the show. Get on stage and look at your instrument and know you are here for a reason and pretend no one is there.

Iggy – Yes what I do is learn how to deal with it through experience and psych myself up. Take deep breaths and try to be confident.
