Interviews: Karmatik
In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal band Karmatik from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like
that?
We absolutely wanted to find a name with the word "Karma", to represent the karmic
links that unite us to another and the vital links that unite us to the whole Universe. This
is the basic concept of Karmatik.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We all listen Metal since our youth and that kind of music, full of extreme feelings and
emotions make us feel great and inspire us. So it is very natural that our compositions
follow that way. So we compose powerful and aggressive songs with progressions and
melodies through heaviness and technicality. Metal includes all of that and we love doing
this!
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Absolutely! Martin and I are brother and I know these other guys for 25 years! More,
Gino, Jean-Michel, and Martin played together some years before Karmatik's formation,
in a band named Metalodik. We are all like brothers!
4. Each band member favorite’s band?
Carol: Death, Cynic, Martyr
Jean-Michel: Dream Theater, In Flames, Lamb of God
Gino: Megadeth, Death, Annihilator
Martin: Death, Lamb of God, Gojira
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Our first inspiration is the human life. Some songs talk about a real fact like a man who
survives to a tsunami, or the abusive way that the biggest banks of the world steal us.
These are very down to earth songs. But other songs are more spiritual; They talk about
the unlimited power hidden inside each of us, about the life afterlife, or about causality
and faith in our self. I found these inspirations in Buddhism philosophy and history.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was last week with Necronomicon; that was an amazing gig in Saguenay /
Canada.
7. Where would you like to act?
I dream to play on the stage of the Metropolis in Montreal City or at the Heavy Montreal
Festival!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
That would be amazing to play with Lamb of God, In Flames or Dream Theatre.
But if Chuck would not be dead, it would be with Death for sure!
9. Whom not?
Lollll… We are ready to play with anybody. As long we're on stage.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat
that?
Yes, we have stage fright before each gig, but it’s really motivating! It's a mix between
stress and adrenaline shoot that gives us incredible energy. We just need to focus on
what we need to do; play our songs like it's the last time we play.
If you really have practiced your songs well, the stage fright will be on your side. But if
you have not practiced well, it could hurt you. So the best tip; practice and practice
again!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
A lot of bands inspired us a lot along the years. These would probably be at the top of
our list:
Death, Cynic, Dream Theater, Martyr, In Flames, Lamb of God, Sevendust, Jinjer,
Megadeth, Metallica, Opeth, Tool, Iron Maiden, Gojira, Testament, Kreator and so many
more!
12. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are awesome! They are inspired and intense dedicated to the Metal music like
a religion, it’s like a faith! We know they will support us to the end of their life. It's like that
for the real Metal fans!
13. What do you think of our site?
I love Breathing the Core because it's a great site to discover a lot of Metal band of any
genre. It's easy to browse and have full of information on the International Metal scene
and also about Indies bands. That’s awesome!
14. Something add?
