Interviews: Lost From The Start
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band Lost From The Start, from Belgium. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
It took us some time to find a perfect name. The first few months, while still working behind the curtains, the band name was actually ‘Echo Avenue’. Later on, we changed it to ‘Lost From The Start’, but kept ‘Echo Avenu’ as the title of our first EP.
2.0Why did you want to play this genre?
Because we couldn't play jazz... and some of us had already had some experience with other genres of music, being punk, hardcore and metalcore.
It all started with our first drummer and our current guitarist Seppe. There were some line-up changes up to 2017 when the new formation was formed with Hilde on vocals and Robby on bass. Only a year later, Jochen joined the band as the need for a second guitar rose. By the end of 2019, we claimed Seb as our newest member on the drums and changed our sound once again when launching our newest single ‘Halfhearted’.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Partially. Hilde was new to the squad. We found her through an online music portal. The moment we introduced Jochen, we had already met him a lot of times, as he played in other bands in the same genre. Jochen introduced us to Seb when we were searching for a new drummer, but we didn’t know him before he joined the band, either.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Difficult to say as our musical taste as individuals constantly changes. The music we listen to ranges from mainstream pop through all ranges of rock, punk and metal.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
When it comes to songwriting, we are mostly inspired by the bands and music we grew up with or currently influenced by. The lyrics are often inspired by things we or people around us are experiencing or have experienced.
6. Where was your last gig?
The last gig was in Opwijk (B), and also the farewell show of our friends in Boxing Day.
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere we can. Mainly smaller to mid-size venues supporting other bands and/or friends in bands. We’d love to do some smaller festivals again in the near future when all this Covid19 stuff is gone and forgotten...
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
The Iconic pop-punk bands, you know. Neck Deep, State Champs, The Story So Far, The Wonder Years, Blink-182,... All of them!
9. Whom not?
Hard to say... Justin Bieber?
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
We sometimes feel some increased "stage fright" when we’re all set, but still have to wait another 20 minutes until our stage time starts. That’s the part of the day that feels like it’s taking hours and hours.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Really hard to say... We mainly try to do things "our way", but you can't prevent influences from outside or others bands blend into the music. If we would pick some needs, we'd say: The Story So Far, The Wonder Years, Paramore, The Ataris.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
At this point, there’s nothing really out of the ordinary that a fan has asked us.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We appreciate it very much when people tell us they enjoyed our show or like listening to our music. We find the support of the fans very important, I think every band does!
14. What do you think of our site?
It reminded me a bit of SoundCloud at first glance, with the orange in the layout. But it looks really clean, even though there’s a lot of information available.
15. Something add?
We would like to thank Breathing The Core and Jon for taking the time to interview us and publish our story. We wish you well and all the best with the website!
