Interviews: Ivan

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal  /Death Metal band, Ivan, from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We chose the name IVAN to avoid any musical implications, to free our stylistic choices.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We have a mutual inspiration from other similar bands, and we find the nature of doom to be open to experimentation and outside influences.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We met almost eleven years ago as teenagers when searching for local musicians, and ended up creating a pretty bad demo. It wasn't until a few years later that we tried our hand at music again with a bit more effort.

4. Each band member favourite band?

It's hard to pick a number one favourite, but here's a few favourites that we agree on: David Bowie, My Bloody Valentine, Shape of Despair and Vampillia.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our day to day lives, experiences and memories of Engadine Maccas 1997.

6. Where was your last gig?

We haven't performed as IVAN yet.

7. Where would you like to act?

Eurovision, and if they don't accept us we'll settle for the Olympics.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Vampillia.

9. Whom not?

Post-'Big Daddy' Adam Sandler.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think it's natural for any musician to have some stage fright initially, but playing enough shows and drinking enough beer will usually settle that.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Shape of Despair, Frank Zappa, Corrupted, Vampillia, Joe Hisaishi, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Nujabes and Django Reinhardt.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To use less violin.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They seem like awesome people, except for the violin guy.

14. What do you think of our site?

We think it's a great place for people to discover new music.

15. Something add?

We'd like to thank our fans for tolerating us.
