Interviews: ENEMY OF THE ENEMY

We have had the opportunity to interview the  Thrash Metal band ENEMY OF THE ENEMY from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or come out just like that?

It came just like that, listening to the album and song “Enemy of the Enemy” from Asian Dub Foundation. We remember listening to the chorus of the song, with “Enemy of the Enemy” sung as a loop, with the all topic of the song... It gets to our mind and we choose to use it as a name!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It's the music we have all listened to a lot since we are children. The energy going with this music, the strength of the guitar-riff, the blast and snare “in your face”, all this took a big part of our life as teenagers, listening all day to it. So when we get the opportunities, we had to take it and kind of “spit it out”, use it to create our own songs, riffs, rhythms, etc...

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes! We were all in the same high school, we use to hang out together, go to concerts, listen to the same CDs (yes, we're from another time.... aha). When we reach 20, we just decided to do the first step, and finally, play by ourselves the music we were listening to for so many years.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Baf: Limp Bizkit

BenV: Rancid

Kal: Korn

ZarC: Pearl Jam

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

In the world around us, we get inspiration from what we go through, and what we see. It's a way of expressing ourselves about the reality around us, all the craziness and tensions, and using it to create an artistic universe.

6. Where was your last gig?

Because of the all Covid19 situation, our last gig was online. We play a live stream in may, in “Le Sub”, a concert place in Vitry Sur Seine, in the Parisian suburb. Actually, you can still watch this concert on youtube, if you like!

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere. We just wanna play, the more we can! Especially in new location, all around the world, travel, meet new people, discover new cities...

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

The band we love, of course, as priorities! We are really influenced by the crossover metal scene from the nineties, of course playing with Limp Bizkit or Korn would be literally realizing a child's dream. Another we would have loved to share the stage is Pantera, a major influence for the band, if ever it was still possible...

9. Whom not?

As we said, we wanna play the more we can, so there is no band to exclude, as long as we have an opportunity to play, we will take it! The only exception might be the bands which revendicate political or controversial point of view, like extreme right, racism, etc... but that's another topic

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, of course, we would say. At one point, everybody goes through stage fright. The advice would be to drink, stand as a pack on stage, all together in the same move, focus on your music, and then the fright would turn into adrenaline.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There's a lot, we listen to a lot of stuff, and are quite diverse. Of course, crossover from the 90'th as we said before, Rage against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, Cypress Hill, Korn, etc... We also listen to classics, like Pantera, or Sepultura. And more recent and extreme bands, such as Chimaira, or Attila.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Once we were invited to play a concert for a Skate contest. The thing is, arriving there, they asked us to participate, and so we did, to please the fans. But except BenV, we're totally noob at skateboarding. You can imagine what came next... don't know how we get to play after all the falls and hurts!

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love them of course! We have to. Well... Yes... They're great! aha

14. What do you think of our site?

We didn't know it to be honest. But as we discover it, we love it! It's really interesting the way you imply the community on talking about the band they like or wanna hear about on your site. The metal scene is not always easy to rise up, so bringing people together to enforce the movement, it's always useful and a great thing to do.

15. Something to add?

Well yes! 2022 is going to be a very important year for Enemy of the Enemy. We have our second album to be released at the beginning of the year, the first single is already planned for the 7th of December on all the streaming platforms, movie clips are on the way, also concerts dates start to be planned... Stay focused and updated, we're on our coming to you!
