Interviews About Albums: Wegferend - En Autremonde - Chapitre Second (2023)

In this new interview, we sat down with the French Folk Metal band Wegferend to ask some questions about their new album "En Autremonde - Chapitre Second"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

We recorded it at Silent Ruins Studio under the supervision of Fred Blanchard who did an incredible job in recording and mixing it. He really managed to create the sound we wanted. Then, Laurent Marc of Waveform Studio, with whom we had already worked on the first EP mastered it. We are really blessed to have worked with them as they are incredibly talented and great people to collaborate with. To us, and for several reasons, this album feels more elaborate than our first EP and we are very proud of it. We put all our souls in this creation and we wanted something very authentic.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

The "Autremonde" which could be translated to "Otherworld" is not a real physical place, but it is not the world of the dead either. It's what each person wants it to be, really. It's a sort of ideal of pure freedom at which every song on the album hints.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Manon usually comes up with a few riffs, sometimes she even has more or less complete song structure and then we all work on it together. Thomas and I add our bricks to the building. Sometimes, Thomas comes up with the first riffs... Ultimately it's always teamwork.

4. If you have to pick one song, which one would you pick?

I would personally pick "The Wayfarer" because at the moment I wrote it, it felt absolutely liberating and honest. I really needed this particular song at that particular time and to be completely honest, I am really proud of the lyrics so this is the one I would pick. Musically, I find its melodies and guitar riffs truly beautiful and meaningful in the sense that you don't even need to pay attention to what I say to understand what it's all about.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

Well, we didn't really intend to convey something in particular but we realized afterward that all the songs are linked, they are all the branches of the same tree. It's about hoping for something more, for freedom, for transcendence...

6. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Our personal lives, landscapes, art, and of course the music we listen to inspire us a lot. We listen to all kinds of music: Pagan folk, metal, classical, pop...anything really as long as it is good. All of this created a well of inspiration from which we were able to draw.

7. Something to add?

Thanks a lot!
