Interviews: FALLING GIANTS
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Sludge Metal/Stoner Metal band FALLING GIANTS from Italy. Check out this band and follow them on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like
that?
We didn’t have any plan about the band name, it came out of nothing and we only had a
vague idea about the Ancient Greek inspiration.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
The original idea was to create a Stoner band but at the time we didn’t have any clue of how
to create that genre of music. Moreover, when we tried to compose something, there’s
always been an ad from some other influence. In the end, we decided to put that into work
by assuming the fact that Stoner/Sludge is only a center around which we revolve. We
started that genre because we love the main artists, but at the same time, we love a lot of
other genres.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, Rust and Frank knew each other at the university, and Rust and Briareo knocked around
the same pubs and friends in Ancona. We met Apsychos during concerts before he joined
us.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Rust - Neurosis
Frank - Sleep
Briareus - Meshuggah
Apsychos - Amenra
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
It depends on a lot of things but mainly philosophical ideas or psychological problems or
historical facts. Sometimes an image or picture or a movie. Sometimes poems from great
writers.
6. Where was your last gig?
It was in Fano this year
7. Where would you like to act?
I think all of the great metal summer festivals would be amazing
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Rust: Personally one of my dreams would be to feature with Melvins or one of the Neurosis
band members. Also with Agalloch.
Frank: I would like to feature with Melvins
Briareus:
Neurosis would be perfect
Apsychos: Neurosis and Sunn O))) for sure
9. Whom not?
Rust: Anything from nowadays trap and hip hop, the ruin of the mind and reasoning. A
backward to tribalism. And nothing from Indie/Hipster music, nothing worse than poor ideas
camouflaged for great psychological inwardness.
Frank: Anything from hip hop.
Briareus:
Those who treat music with superficiality, regardless of the genre.
Apsychos: Anyone who
does not experience music in its introspection.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to
beat that?
I think not. We don’t have any opportunity to do gigs on huge stages, so it’s also difficult to
raise the fright since you play with people you know. When you begin you should remember
that fear is for ego, an illusion to mask cowardice, blindness, or stupidity. No one will ever
know you only through music notes. You will show only your ego, an endless beginner.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Rust: Musically speaking about Whirlwind Hymns, I owe a lot to Neurosis, Melvins, Tool,
Mastodon, Darkthrone, Kyuss, High on Fire, Yob, Black Sabbath, and Alice In Chains.
Frank:
My influences are Sleep, Black Sabbath, Tool, Japan, & Goblin.
Briareus: I learned to play
drums listening to Pantera, Slayer, and Metallica, now Coroner and Enslaved are what
inspire me the most
Apsychos: Celtic Frost, Black Funeral, Amenra.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I don’t remember anything weird ‘til now.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are intelligent and wise since they listen to us. Or they are crazy. But we love you
anyway.
14. What do you think of our site?
We know what it means to bring music to fans via webzine and we highly support the effort
of all those who try. Your site is an incredible amount of suggestions and news for interested
fans.
15. Something to add?
“Only he is an artist who can make a riddle out of a solution.” - Karl Kraus
