Interviews: CALLIDER

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal solo project CALLIDER from Germany. Check out this artist and follow him on his FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

I decided on a neologism, combining "Call" and "Collide". Both words have significance and meaning in regard to my personality. “Collider” for myself colliding with the world when attempting to put my ideas into reality. And “Call” for trying to get my message out.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Listening to the first real Melodic Death Metal artists back in my youth really struck me and has stuck with me since then. Before I did not even know that this genre existed but from then on it was evident that this is where my passion lay.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Callider is a solo project, but I have worked with many awesome people during the production process, most of whom I did not know before but count them as friends now.

4. Your favorite band?

Well, I listen to a lot of stuff but my favorite bands I would say are Dark Tranquility, As I Lay Dying, and In Flames. I took the liberty to name more than one since I am the only band member, hehe.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I am inspired by things and emotions that I go through in everyday life. I also take deep inspiration from traveling and taking up local history and connecting it to its presence. The vast changes in society, technology, and culture occurring over only a few generations time and time again make it hard for me to spin my head around and keep me enormously inspired.

6. Where was your last gig?

Played acoustic guitar with a good friend and opera singer Constanze Wagner at a friend's wedding this year. I remember the gig was outdoors and very cold so I had to sit on my hands to keep them warm for playing, haha.

7. Where would you like to perform?

No aspirations at this point, Callider is a studio-only project currently.

8. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I did, but it goes away with routine and preparation. Stick to it.

9. What bands have inspired you the most?

I am still largely inspired still by the classic rock artists that spun on my parent's record player when I was a child. Those were Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Wishbone Ash, Jethro Tull, and others.

10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I’ve had some very interesting encounters with female fans back in the day but I do not want to go into detail here, haha...

11. What do you think of your fans?

Well, I hope they like my music, hehe. It is hard getting an actual connection to your fanbase as a new and non-touring artist. Feel free to get in touch with me via social media and other channels, looking forward to getting to know you.

12. What do you think of our site?

I think you are doing a great job of keeping the scene alive and vibrant. Go ahead, guys!
