Interviews: Illusions Of Grandeur

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Theatrical Hard Rock/Fantasy Metal band Illusions Of Grandeur from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name; did you plan it or come out just like that?

The name originated from a time when Maggie “The Siren” was seeking out other musicians to form a band. A lot of the ads said, “No Illusions of Grandeur here” meaning they just wanted to play music, Maggie thought “Why no Illusions of Grandeur?” Life is short, go for what you dream and want!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

As a band we wanted to develop and produce something different than the normal “Hard Rock and Metal” Illusions of Grandeur’s influences come from many genres of course starting with metal; like Korn, In This Moment Metallica, Avatar, and Evanescence. Each member draws off their individual influences as well which are varied from The Siren’s love of Classic rock like Janis Joplin and heart to CM’s love of The Smiths, Supertramp Soundgarden into Miles's love of death metal, Jazz, and more. IOG feels this just adds to the sound and allows the band to explore a lot of themes in their music. We still listen to these artists and many, many more.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

CM and Maggie had previously worked together in a national act for a few years

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Theatrical hard rock/metal, Illusions of Grandeur's influences come from many genres of course starting with metal; like Korn, In This Moment Metallica, Avatar, and Evanescence. Each member draws off their individual influences as well which are varied from The Siren’s love of Classic rock like Janis Joplin and heart to CM’s love of The Smiths, Supertramp Soundgarden into a love of death metal, and more. IOG feels this just adds to the sound and allows the band to explore a lot of themes in their music.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Illusions of Grandeur’s main music writer is Bassist CM Carroll with lyrics and melodies provided by The Siren. The entire band participates in the arranging and recording process and each member, as songs are produced adds elements to it to create the overall song and sound. IOG is continuously writing, normally demoing 30-35 songs per album then finding the songs that carry the story and sound of the record.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played our last show on December 30th, 2023, in Hallem, PA at the Tourist Inn, great way to close out 2023!

7. Where would you like to perform?

IOG’s goal is to play anywhere, anytime for anyone, worldwide. We love touring

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Well, that would for sure be Avatar, Korn, and In This Moment. Having seen these bands a few times I knew they would put on an amazing show!

9. Whom not?

Know one, we are welcome to all!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Never had stage fright that I can remember, advice would be prepared! Know your music and have the drive to present it as if no one is watching or 10,000 people are. Leave it all on the stage at every show

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I would have to say Judas Priest, Korn, In This Moment, ABBA, AC/DC, just so many! I would love to collaborate with Korn. They’ve been my favorite band since I was a teenager, and the way Jonathan sings with so much emotion is something I try to emulate.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Never really had any “weird” asks, I was handed a very young baby on stage once in the Ukraine, which was a bit strange, I handed him back directly, but it was a moment for sure

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love The Siren Nation! Our friends and fans around the world, without them, there would be no us!

14. What do you think of our site?

Love the blend of Metal and Hard Rock coverage!

15. Something to add?

Illusions of Grandeur is a live band. We love being in the studio and creating, but on the love stage, the band really comes alive! Illusions of Grandeur’s live show “The Siren Saga” draws its storyline from the concept albums “the Songs of the Siren prt1” and “The Siren prt2”. Acting out the songs and story on stage amidst a light and video show. IOG’s fans The Siren Nation are amazing, supporting both in America and Europe.

2024 will see the release of Illusions of Grandeur’s “The Siren Rises pt1: Raven Witch” which will continue The Siren Saga from the previous two albums, taking The Siren further into battle with hades.

Illusions of Grandeur’s The Siren Tour continues through the remainder of 2023 into 2024.

IOG are currently while tour producing their 3rd album the next story in The Siren Saga “The Siren Rises” which the band looks to have out in 2024.
