Interviews About Albums: To Kill A Monster - The Sharpie On The Wall (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Punk Rock band To Kill A Monster to ask questions about their album "The Sharpie On The Wall".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

To Kill A Monster has been around since about 2005, and slowly found this new lineup over the last few years. This is the 1st collection of the new lineup writing together, and some of the best work I feel this band has ever put out. There's a little something for everyone. This is only the beginning of what we have in store, and we can't wait to see what everyone thinks.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

"The Sharpie On The Wall"

Honestly, we decided this while playing a show, and almost any venue bathroom will put you in the right place. Went through a bunch of names that weren't quite right, but something about a venue filled with stickers and writing on the wall everywhere just feels like home.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

All the lyrics are by me, Joey. All of us though worked together on different parts of the music. All of us write and work together until we're happy with the final product. We all write different riffs and ideas to play around with.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

"The Past" which was heavily written by James, went through a bunch of versions before we were finally pumped on it. I think it is the best all-round song to capture the kind of band we are. The ep as a whole has a splash of everything we are, but if I picked one to represent us, it'd definitely be The Past.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is, what is it?

Not really, since we like to take different genres and ideas and kinda just play with them. If anything though I'd say it's just to have fun again. Things have kinda seemed to just get crazy over the last few years and at least to me personally this is a reminder to just be happy when and where we can.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

"I am a ghost searching for my killer, overcome with jealousy of all the people walking by oblivious they're alive"

There's a ton of lyrics on the ep that I believe are some of my best, but this one is a beautiful segment of how I feel. Go out and live.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

The best part of this is that we all have crazy different inspirations and somehow mix everything into what it is. Everyone here is incredibly talented and it's amazing bringing everyone's musical tastes together. Everything from The Offspring, Foo Fighters, Story Of The Year, Carousel Kings, Tenacious D, Eve 6, Mayday Parade, Mxpx, After The Burial, Revocation, A Day To Remember, Audioslave, to The Used, and so so many more. On top of the music, our family and friends have been incredible support to keep this all going and this would all be pointless without them. So thank you for sticking by us.

8. Something to add?

We're incredibly happy to bring this all to everyone and proud of what we've made together. This is just the beginning of what we've been working on and the new bare minimum of quality music we're going to put out. We really hope people love it as much as we loved making it, and can't wait to get the next stuff finished. We're just getting started. Thank you to everyone who listens, shares, and parties with us!
