Interviews: War Curse

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal band, War Curse, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

We had to change our name on short notice before our very first show. At the time I was listening to Kreator’s Hordes of Chaos album. We took the name from a song on that album but made “War Curse” two words.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We’re all long-time fans of metal music. My parents were into metal when I was a kid. I grew up listening to bands like Megadeth and Judas Priest. I guess you could say it’s in my DNA.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Murphy (former guitarist) and I had played in a bunch of different bands together for around a decade before starting War Curse. I met James (drummer) online. We’ve had quite a few members come and go in the time since, but we met Johnnie (bass), Blaine (vocals), and now Ed (guitarist) by playing shows with their previous bands.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Justin - Bleed From Within

Blaine - Killswitch Engage

Edward - Creed (really loves Scott Stapp)

James - Megadeth

Johnnie - Kalmah

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Inspiration can be found anywhere. Just look at the fucked up world we’re living in. If you can’t find something interesting to discuss with everything falling apart around you, you’re not paying attention. Turn on the news. Look around. The songs practically write themselves.

6. Where was your last gig?

We warmed up the crowd for Exhorder’s “Year of the Goat” video shoot in Newport, KY. Our next show is with Artillery in NYC on April 13th.

7. Where would you like to act?

Act? Like in a movie? No thanks. Hollywood is full of perverts and assholes.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Josh Middleton of Sylosis on guitar. Howard Jones (formerly) of Killswitch Engage on vocals.

9. Whom not?

Gene Simmons. No talent prick.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

It takes a little getting used to when you start playing for larger crowds. The best advice I can give youngsters is to rehearse your set as if you’re on stage. Get used to moving around and head-banging during practice so that it comes naturally during shows. Get comfortable playing in bad lighting. Get used to looking ahead and not staring at your instrument. The more you prepare, the less nervous you’ll feel.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I don’t think it’s necessarily “bands” that inspire me so much as individual musicians. I admire songwriters. Guys like James Hetfield, Dave Grohl, Billy Corgan, Tom DeLonge. Guys who can turn a complex idea and a handful of riffs into a great piece of music.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I’ve had fans ask for a piece of my hair. That’s a little weird. Are they going to clone me? Thankfully most fans just ask for guitar picks and setlists.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We appreciate the hell out of them. War Curse has some of the best, most supportive fans I’ve ever seen. So many of them have transcended the typical fan role and become great friends. I could shout them out by name but we’d be here all day.

14. What do you think of our site?

You’ve certainly covered a ton of bands during your tenure. I had to scroll for like 6 minutes to see the entire list! I think it’s great that you’re taking the time to give so many up-and-coming bands a platform. Sites like yours are more important than the Corey Taylor clickbait farms masquerading as media outlets.
